POSITION SUMMARY
Operates vehicles and associated equipment requiring Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) as a member of the crew; transports crews, materials, and equipment; maintains accurate logs and records of work.

Salary : $26.61 per hour.
Union : This position is included in the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Union Bid Form : Required. City employees whose name appear on the Eligibility List for this position, and who are in the union noted above, must file a Bid Form when the official Notice of Bid is posted.
Civil Service Classification : Non-Competitive.

A current, valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (with the "L" air brake restriction lifted) is required at the time of filing application and must be maintained throughout employment. Please attach a copy/clear picture of your CDL to your application.
NOTE : The City of Pittsburgh, as a matter of policy, conducts pre-employment and promotional background investigations on all candidates being considered for positions. The background investigation includes but is not limited to criminal background, driver's license, and City of Pittsburgh real estate tax payments. Candidates may be disqualified from consideration for employment based on the results of their background investigation (as it relates to the job for which the applicant is being considered) .
NOTE : Pursuant to changes to Section 8(A) of the 2003 bargaining agreement between the City and the Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee, all City of Pittsburgh employees who are on the current Truck Driver eligibility list shall be given first priority for acting opportunities in truck driving positions.
Qualifying Requirements :
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed, and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
WORK EXPERIENCE : The applicant must either A. Be a CURRENT City of Pittsburgh employee with a minimum of six (6) months of continuous employment with the Department of Public Works . OR B. Possess a minimum of two (2) years of paid full-time experience operating trucks that require a Class B CDL. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING : The application must clearly show a high school diploma or equivalency.
EQUIVALENCY: None permitted.
CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS
If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s). You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

Performance: Required. The performance exam is b ased on the knowledge/abilities listed in the Job Description, which is linked at the bottom of the Position Duties section of this announcement. The exams will tentatively take place March 24, through April 5, 2025.

POSITION DUTIES
Drives and operates vehicles requiring Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) and all of their associated equipment (GPS, spreader controller, etc.) as a member of the crew.
Operates equipment at job site (compressor, generator, snow plow, spreader, pump, multi-purpose truck attachments, etc.).
Manually and mechanically loads, secures, and unloads materials and equipment.
Drives vehicles and operates equipment in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
May work as a member of a crew to perform all aspects of the work (eg, corridor cleaning, cutting weeds, pothole patching, emptying litter cans, lot cleaning, etc.)
Truck Drivers may exit assigned vehicle and assist the Laborer crew if there is no other driving work available (during loading and unloading of vehicle and between trips). When driving duties become available again the Truck Driver will return to driving.
Performs pre- and post- trip vehicle inspections for mechanical condition and function in both electronic and physical format. Reports and/or schedules any necessary repairs or maintenance; may perform minor repairs.
Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of assigned vehicles and equipment including: checking fluid levels, lubricating mechanical parts, checking tire pressure, cleaning equipment of debris, etc.
Ensures that safety procedures are observed.
May be required to direct traffic at work site.
Uses a variety of technological hardware (i.e., computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, GPS, cameras, etc.) and/or software (i.e., email, Cartegraph, Microsoft Office, etc.) to maintain records and prepare accurate reports on work performed.
Performs activities and functions of related lower-level personnel as assigned or required.
Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
May work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
