Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
Clean anesthesia machines, monitors, equipment and carts between cases according to established infection control and prevention standards
Changes anesthesia circuit, reestablishes clean, safe environment for next surgical patient
Knowledge of care, preparation, isolation and cleaning of flexible intubating scopes and glidescopes
Functions as a role model and works collaboratively with anesthesia providers to anticipate needs of daily schedule and to ensure an efficient and safe environment
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all members of the healthcare team, both departmentally and interdepartmentally
Consistently demonstrate commitment to Core Values and must have exemplary attendance record
Manage all inventory par levels and demonstrates proficient computer skills to enter electronic materials management orders daily
Ability to demonstrate knowledge relating to the anesthesia procedures in order to effectively anticipate the needs of the anesthesia providers
Organize and maintain anesthesia work room to enable all Anesthesia personnel to find items easily
Prepare equipment and supplies needed to administer anesthesia.
Prepare anesthesia carts in all anesthesia administration areas (OR, OB, Endo, etc.) daily
Evaluate and maintain par levels of anesthesia supplies and equipment daily
Prepare and deliver IVs hourly to the holding area according to OR schedule
Assist with maintaining procedural areas in clean, neat, orderly condition
Assist anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists with preparation for induction of general or spinal anesthesia
May apply cardiac monitor leads and blood pressure cuff on patients in the O.R.
Help transport patients and move or position them for anesthesia or surgery
Ensure routine maintenance and daily electrical safety checks on machines
Maintain routine specialty carts in readiness at all times (malignant hyperthermia cart, difficult airway and pediatric cart, nerve block cart)
Maintain established par levels of anesthesia supplies on specialty carts
Prepare supplies and equipment for special lines and procedures
Assist with delivery of stat specimens to the lab or pathology
Perform errands to other hospital departments within the scope of the anesthesia department
Retrieve blood or blood products from the blood bank as directed
Assist with disposal of trash and soiled linen appropriately
Clean storage cabinets and carts in a timely basis
Return equipment to proper storage area when not in use

Experience/Knowledge/Skills Required
Possesses organization and planning skills
Ability to concentrate and prioritize in distracting environment and during potential life threatening situations
Ability to work at a quick pace with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a surgical services environment
Ability to learn and retain basic technical knowledge of procedures
Excellent attendance and punctuality is required
Education Required
Ability to read, write and understand English at the 12th grade level
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of surgical procedures
Excellent Computer skills (Materials Management, ORM, email and order entry)
Registration/Certification
BLS Required
EMT, C.N.A, M.A. certification/license or equivalent required
Anesthesia Certification/Surgical Technologist or Central Sterilization Technician preferred
Physical/Environmental Requirements
This job will require lifting greater than 10lbs, frequent bending, pushing, walking and standing. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
