General Summary:

The IT Director of Service Transition will oversee and manage the Change and Release processes, with a focus on risk assessment, process execution, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

This role combines leadership in service transition with people management responsibilities, driving efficient code deployment, and ensuring seamless production changes. The Director will also manage external security certificates and automate service transition processes, maintaining strict controls and adherence to audit and regulatory requirements.

This position is critical for ensuring the smooth transition of IT services while maintaining high customer service standards.

Job Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite per week in Portland, ME, or Chattanooga, TN)

Job Specs:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent technical experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in an IT field, with a strong background in Change and Release management.

  • Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing teams.

  • Deep understanding of Agile/Lean principles and IT service management.

  • Strong strategic thinking, risk assessment, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate a compelling vision, influence stakeholders, and lead change initiatives.

  • Strong planning, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale IT transitions and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Change and Release management processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, audits, and customer service standards.

  • Lead the development and execution of risk assessments for changes and releases, mitigating potential disruptions.

  • Manage code deployments, ensuring accurate and secure production changes.

  • Coordinate the handling and automation of external security certificates and deployment processes.

  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders on strategic planning, offering guidance on technology and architecture.

  • Define the service transition portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives and IT goals.

  • Foster partnerships with key stakeholders to drive IT service optimization and successful delivery.

  • Ensure Agile teams apply best practices in software engineering, including continuous integration, test automation, and adherence to standards.

  • For Infrastructure and Operations teams, ensure competitive benchmarking to maintain cost-effective service delivery.

  • Build and manage a diverse talent pipeline, developing and coaching team members for high performance.

  • Support self-organizing teams by enabling autonomy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Use key performance indicators and critical success factors to track and improve the organization’s performance.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$109,100.00-$224,000.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
