This position will be involved in a diverse range of activities supporting management of NRG‘s Retail and Wholesale positions. This includes structured deal valuation, portfolio analysis and optimization, and power market fundamentals. This position offers a high degree of visibility and will work closely with the Trade Desks, Origination, Regional Asset Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, Asset Development, and other key groups within the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Model energy assets and complex transactions including renewables, energy storage, thermal assets, and power and weather derivatives in support of Trade Desk, Origination, and M&A activities; also includes exposure to load following/full requirements transactions and fuel transportation.

  • Design, development, and implementation of algorithms and mathematical or statistical models intended to evaluate asset or portfolio performance under varying market conditions and impact of hedge strategies.

  • Monitor and evaluate market trends, regulatory developments, and economic conditions to inform structuring valuations.

  • Support transaction execution, including due diligence, documentation review, and deal closing activities.

  • Evaluate existing portfolio and strategic rationale for changes to the portfolio.

  • Work with the senior leadership to produce presentations for board meetings, earnings, investor meetings, or other similar events.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance or related discipline. A Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CFA, FRM) is a plus.

  • Three to five years energy industry or energy consulting experience in asset and/or energy derivative valuation.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and valuation techniques.

  • Must have advanced knowledge of Excel spreadsheets (macros, custom functions, VBA, etc.).

  • Should be a self-starter, adaptive and versatile, able to work effectively in an active trading environment.

  • Detail oriented and able to produce accurate work product.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
