Job Summary and Qualifications

  • Manages the physical environment of the patient care area.

  • Monitors and directs patient care utilizing the nursing process and resources needed related to patient care

  • Effectively communicates pertinent information to appropriate individuals and maintains accurate and complete documentation of all patient information. Effectively delivers safe, patient centered quality care in a timely fashion.

  • Ensures patients and/or families receive appropriate health care education and instructions

  • Will assure that the admission process and the internal and external transferring of patients is adhered to by hospital and federal policies

  • Ensure that all charges are accurately completed and provide holistic and cost-effective nursing care to all patients.

  • Medication Administration Safe, accurate and knowledgeable medication administration

  • Supervises others Assigns work duties to others within the department. (i.e. WC, Tech)

  • Shifts Shift varies based on patient and staffing needs but will be assigned a primary shift.

  • Performance Expectations for all Positions:

  • Performs Work Accurately Errors or mistakes occur infrequently or are minor in nature. Generally conscientious in completing tasks error-free.

  • Supports Hospital Policies Follows hospital rules as described in department and hospital policies; seeks out assistance if unsure.

  • Is Dependable Completes work with minimal supervision. Adjusts to workload variations as assigned

  • Has Good Attendance Experiences unexceptional number of occurrences (generally no more than 3 per year, excluding bereavement and FMLA). Consistently arrives at work on time. Conscientious about missed work.

  • Continuously Learns Attends required education and required in-services, attends extra classes if asked. Meets requirements for attendance at department meetings.

  • Supports Code of Conduct Adheres to company ethics and compliance standards at work, including confidentiality and privacy. Appropriately refers questions.

  • Follows Safety Rules Follows established safety guidelines in all work-related activities; follows standard precautions including hand washing and use of PPE; properly handles hazardous materials within the department.

  • Solves Problems Will identify and analyze problems, considering various alternatives. Takes action when confronted with a problem. Generally, takes responsibility for actions when negative outcomes are identified.

  • Suggests Improvements Offers opinions and ideas regarding improvements when asked; willing to assist with solutions and participates in team efforts.

  • Performs Work Timely Work is completed on time.

  • Demonstrates Initiative Performs work that is assigned, occasionally seeks out additional assignments or puts in extra effort.

  • Communicates Appropriately Communicates effectively to appropriate persons to ensure problems are taken care of; consistently uses chain of command. Encourages collaboration or teamwork.

  • Works Well with Others Team player; works toward accomplishing job assignments and assists with department and organization goals as asked. Gets along with others and interacts with them positively.

  • Is Courteous/Friendly Generally smiles, establishes eye contact, pleasant tone of voice, calls people by name, introduces self to patients; knocks before entering patient rooms; generally, gives customer his/her full attention

  • Is Flexible/Adaptable Easy going; works well under pressure; approaches change positively. Generally flexible with schedule changes.

  • House Rules Understands the expectations of LGHP House Rules

What qualifications you will need:

  • License (Virginia): Registered Nurse

  • Degree: BSN or MSN

Experience:

  • 2 Yrs. Emergency or Critical Care

  • Certification/Registry:

  • BLS from an approved agency within 90 days of hire/transfer

  • ACLS from an approved agency within 180 days- new employees/transfers have a maximum of 180 days to complete ACLS upon hire date. During this time the nurse will work under the direct supervision of an RN who has satisfactorily completed basic arrhythmia competency and ACLS certification. If the new employee fails to complete the above items in the established timeframe, the nurse lacking successful completion of the competency/certification will continue to work under the direct supervision of another RN as previously described. This practice will continue until the new employee satisfactorily completes the basic arrhythmia competency, has passed licensure exam, and has obtained ACLS certification.

  • PALS from an approved agency within 180 days- new employees/transfers have a maximum of 180 days to complete PALS upon hire date. During this time the nurse will work under the direct supervision of an RN who has satisfactorily completed basic arrhythmia competency and PALS certification. If the new employee fails to complete the above items in the established timeframe, the nurse lacking successful completion of the competency/certification will continue to work under the direct supervision of another RN as previously described. This practice will continue until the new employee satisfactorily completes the basic arrhythmia competency, has passed licensure exam, and has obtained PALS certification.

Other : NRP, CEN, TNCC

  • This position takes INFREQUENT call; required to return to the hospital within 60 minutes when on call.
