The Challenge

We are looking for an entry level Accounting Technician to join our Accounts Payable Payment Audit team.

In this role, you will:

• Approve invoices related to corporate credit cards.
• Audit scanned backup documentation to ensure correct information is attached and correctly entered in the NCDOT accounting system.
• Assist employees with questions and problems processing documents.
• Communicate regularly with field staff to ensure invoices meet NCDOT policies/procedures.
• Mail and batch checks once monthly and assist with the statements distribution.
• Serve as a backup to the other Payment Audit team members.
• Work on special projects.

What You Bring

• Experience with SAP or other accounting systems.
• Experience with accounting methods and procedures and practices, specifically auditing experience in Accounts Payable.
• Computer experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Knowledge of government accounting methods, procedures, and financial practices.
• Experience understanding, interpreting, and applying laws relating to financial records.

Education and Experience

• Associate degree in Accounting; or

• High School/GED diploma, and

• 2+ years of accounting experience; or

• An equivalent combination of training and experience.
