Job Responsibilities

As a member of the Corporate Human Resources team, the Benefits Manager will oversee all processes related to the benefits function.

Additional responsibilities of the Benefits Manager:

  • Lead team of three (3) Benefits Specialists in day to day operational functioning of the benefits department.

  • Oversee the administration of the health and welfare plans including processing of required documentation to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions.

  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with vendors and provide input for the decision-making process.

  • Ensure the maintenance of employee benefits data including processing new employees, making changes to employee data, entering benefits information, and updating separations. Ensure completion is timely and accurate in both computer and paper system.

  • Complete monthly invoicing to ensure accuracy of employee deductions and coverage levels.

  • Assist with design and distribution of benefits communication materials to coworker population, utilizing a variety of methods to reach intended audience.

  • Coordinate and execute the Annual Open Enrollment process including preparation of all related materials, communication of changes to HR team, and updating of HRIS system.

  • Ensure compliance with benefits related reporting inclusive of items such as ACA Compliance, CAA, Creditable Coverage, PCORI, 5500s, Secure 2.0, etc.

  • Responsible for administration of the company 401(k) plan. This role is a member of the investment committee with fiduciary responsibilities and attends routine meetings with recordkeeper. Leads the processing of annual non-discrimination testing.

  • Oversee processing of FMLA and other types of leave of absence.

  • Serve as backup to benefits coordinator in the processing of disability and life insurance claims, NYDBL & PFL.

  • Administer supplemental life insurance and executive LTD plans.

  • Oversee the maintenance of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) as it relates to benefits including configuration of system to accommodate plan design and other benefits processes.

  • Research and resolve benefits issues for employees functioning as liaison with various insurance carriers.

  • Coordinate efforts with other members of the Corporate HR team to achieve departmental objectives.

Job Requirements

Successful candidates for the Benefits Manager role should have the ability to work independently and lead the team to successfully managing processes to meet deadlines and serve the coworker population.

Additional requirements of the Benefits Manager include:

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Creative problem solving, organization, and confidentiality skills

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to learn HR computer systems and strong background in the Microsoft Office Suite; Experience with Oracle HCM, preferred

  • Detail oriented, self-starter with a sense of urgency to meet weekly, monthly, and annual deadlines

  • Knowledge of Federal and State employment and benefits laws, preferred

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and adapt to frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
