The Microsoft Infrastructure Engineering Services (IES) organization is for those technology professionals who want to be strategic partners to the business and be the first place to create innovative solutions using Microsoft and industry leading products and services. Unlike other enterprise organizations, IES employees create global impact for thousands of partners and employees.  

As a Network Engineer II , you will help design and deploy the latest and most secure Wireless solutions to Microsoft facilities worldwide. You will partner with our outsourced vendors and direct them remotely to commission and test these Wireless networks.  You will develop and maintain scripted automation to help automate specific workflows.  Your responsibilities will also include daily operations and maintenance of these essential Wireless services as part of a 7*12 on-call rotation within the team.  A solid understanding of security technologies and service models related to Wireless networking is crucial to ensure that these foundational services are architected, designed, deployed, and maintained to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create Wireless RF designs and associated Bill of Materials that adhere to our Wireless standards and provide best in class WiFi experiences to our customers. 

  • Oversee and manage deployment vendor teams to ensure Wireless networks are deployed and tested in strict alignment with the approved Wireless design.   

  • Test and certify new Wireless platforms, products and code. 

  • Partner and share technical expertise with interdisciplinary teams, demonstrating a deep understanding of services and the ability to clearly articulate the specific technologies of the service to enable development and ongoing maintenance.  

  • Foster a continuous improvement culture that learns through data driven telemetry and drives efficiency through automation and scripting improvements. 

  • Responsible for the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and/or performance of supported Wireless infrastructure and services, including Wireless switching.  

  • Resolve service issues, minimizes customer impact, and documents solutions that inform ongoing improvements and prevent the recurrence of similar issues.   

  • Adhere to security and compliance standards and works with security and compliance teams to identify and address relevant issues.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.

  • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation.

  • 2+ years technical experience in design, deployment and management of enterprise scale Wireless networks.  

  • Experience developing code, scripts, automation systems with common network infrastructure tools such as Ansible, YAML and Python.  

  • Experience with Wireless RF design and validation tools such as Ekahau and Hamina.

  • Familiarity with HPE/Aruba Wireless networking products including campus access points, controllers, switching, Aruba Central and ClearPass.  

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant network and security certifications are a plus – CWNA, CWNP, etc. 

Cloud Network Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
