The Microsoft Security AI Research team is responsible for defending Microsoft and our customers through applied AI innovation. Defending Microsoft’s complex environment provides a unique opportunity to build and evaluate autonomous defense and offense through emerging generative AI capabilities. Microsoft understands and learns from its own defensive and offensive expertise, including via teams like Microsoft’s Threat Intelligence Center and Microsoft’s Red Team, and is building a unique knowledge graph describing the relationship between assets, risk, investigation, and response. This data, built over Microsoft’s complex digital estate, along with Microsoft AI forms the foundation for innovative solutions to defend Microsoft. We are looking for a Principal Security Program Manager to join our team to reshape how we defend Microsoft. You will lead, drive, and coordinate novel AI investments to enhance our automated red teaming capabilities to validate and enhance Microsoft’s defensive posture and response. You will collaborate with internal and external partners on real-world scenarios and challenges to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure AI solutions. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance and deploy Microsoft’s AI-driven red team capabilities.

  • Collaborate with defenders, threat hunters, PMs, researchers and engineers to turn research into effective solutions that improve our ability to protect ourselves.

  • Gather, document, and prioritize requirements for agentic AI systems, capabilities, and platforms across research and engineering.

  • Present success, metrics, progress, and challenges to executive audiences.

  • Identify potential risks associated with AI-driven red team activities and develop strategies to mitigate these risks. This includes ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.

  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of projects that improve Microsoft's security posture.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects, consistently delivering highly effective and collaborative outcomes in a fast-paced, dynamic, and demanding environment.

  • Proven track record of driving complex projects from concept through completion.

  • Ability to convey complex technical information clearly to various stakeholders.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).

  • Experience with NIST Cybersecurity Framework or MITRE ATT&CK; direct red team experience is highly preferred.

  • At least 1+ years of experience in applying AI and machine learning techniques.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
