As a Principle Software Engineering Manager you will play a pivotal role in building resilient, highly scalable, highly available and highly performant services that leverage state of the art technologies to deliver the next gen collaboration and teamwork experiences. Responsibilities

  • Foster relationships with partners across the business, customers, and other stakeholders.

  • Act as an active and dedicated coach, model our company values for the team, while creating an inclusive, fun, and supportive environment where every employee can be and do their best.

  • Dig into technical details while managing the bigger picture of product delivery. Drive an engineering rhythm so that the team operates at a high level, knowledge is shared appropriately, and smooth execution is facilitated. Spend at least 50% of your time coding yourself.

  • Work with the leadership team to define success metrics and drive strategy initiatives and provide thought leadership.

  • Be a keen representative of the Microsoft cultural attributes and leadership principles and have a positive impact on team morale and work climate

  • A desire to learn, a tendency to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setback, see failures as essential to mastery, learn from criticism and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of software development experience.

  • 3+ years of leading and building engineering teams.

  • 3+ years of experience building, monitoring, and maintaining high scale services.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience working across teams and divisions, with a history of building partnerships between groups.

  • Ability to work in an agile environment where your work changes rapidly in response to customer feedback and data.

  • Prior experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.

  • Experience working with Kubernetes or Service Fabric.

  • Track record of cross-group/cross-discipline collaboration.

  • Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or people manager.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
