Responsibilities
• A successful candidate is responsible for creating a well-defined plan for testing and ensuring the quality of solutions. They define the success criteria for test outcomes, such as unit tests, and determine the most effective testing approach. They drive efforts to improve the test suite by adding new tests, removing outdated tests, and aggregating tests. They also continually integrate automation features into the testing process and make recommendations to the team to improve test coverage.
• They optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to enhance performance, maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment. They apply metrics to ensure code quality and stability and follow appropriate coding patterns and best practices.
• They use debugging tools and analyze logs, telemetry, and other methods to proactively verify assumptions and reactively address issues as they arise. They conduct retrospective debugging to identify the root causes of problems.
• They drive the creation and execution of experiments to assess the effectiveness of changes, monitor developments in prototyping and testing, and interpret the results of experimentation.
• They maintain the operations of live services on a rotational, on-call basis, implementing solutions and mitigations to complex issues that impact performance or functionality. They escalate issues as necessary and review and write retrospectives to share insights with the team.
• They ensure that the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility. They provide evidence of compliance and develop a deep understanding of the implications of onboarding new technologies in accordance with Microsoft's compliance expectations.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience with one of the following areas: cryptography, security, operating system internals or operating services at large scale.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,
OR Python
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Knowledge of UNIX or Linux. Experience implementing or maintaining software that uses secure communications, cryptographic algorithms, public key infrastructure, or key management technologies.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
