Generac Power Systems Firmware Engineer Intern (Summer 2025) in Reno, Nevada

Our extremely talented engineering team in our Reno Center of Excellent is seeking a Firmware Engineer Summer Intern to join in 2025. You will work alongside engineer teams building the next iterations of clean energy products in BESS (Battery Energy Storage Solutions). You will have the opportunity to work independently while collaborating with cross functional teams, receive mentorship from industry professionals, and demonstrate a variety of your skills. You will learn to develop software that interacts with physical energy systems

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Improve tools and develop software to test and debug complex energy management systems

  • Develop software applications on a custom embedded Linux platform

  • Collaboration with cross functional teams

  • Gaining experience in ownership of a feature through multiple stages of its life cycle

  • Working with a wide variety of modern and emerging technologies

  • Reducing global carbon emissions by contributing to the development and growth of distributed power generation networks fueled by renewable energy sources

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline at an accredited college or university.

  • Experience with design and implementation of software applications. Familiarity with device firmware application or testing using Rust, C, C++, or Python

  • Familiarity with continuous integration and related technologies (e.g. GIT Lab Jenkins, Circle CI or other CI/CD tools)

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
