What You Will Be Doing
Generac Clean Energy Solutions is looking for a highly motivated Senior Staff Controls Engineer to work on new product introductions for clean energy solutions. You will be working cross functionally with manufacturing engineering, design engineering, supply chain, test engineering, product management, and contract manufacturers across North America. The Manufacturing Engineering team delivers new manufacturing lines to produce residential energy storage systems, rooftop power electronic systems, and clean energy ecosystem products. This position is based at Reno, NV and will be focused on guiding the development of controls architecture and standards and working to grow controls engineering resources in the manufacturing engineering organization. As a controls engineering leader you are directly responsible for the design and implementation of automation systems in manufacturing lines, development of standards and templates, and growing the controls engineering team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
System level ownership of assembly line components and design
Design and launch manufacturing equipment for new products introduced to mass-production
Developing next generation controls systems that merge traditional PLC logic with the benefits of a modern software stack
Performing hands-on work with full-scale production equipment, from initial commissioning to mass production and ramp.
Lead and guide manufacturing equipment builders to successful project delivery.
Collaborate on high-level machine and line designs decisions, inform and lead supplier design architecture, and review phase milestones.
Interpersonal and leadership skills are essential in addition to technical acumen. Leadership responsibilities include:
Developing engineering talent through goal setting, training, and purposeful assignments
Motivating engineers & providing growth opportunities and project / company impact
Fostering a collaborative team dynamic that values ownership and accountability
Providing mentorship to build team resiliency, capability, and technical depth
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with strong fundamentals
Minimum 10 years of controls engineering experience
- 8 years of experience on bringing up turn-key manufacturing equipment from concept to commission
Demonstrated track record of team leadership and mentoring experience
Demonstrated ability to hire and promote engineering talent
Ability to plan resource requirements and allocation by projects, including leading external or Line-Integrator controls teams
Programming proficiency in PLC or industrial controllers (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff) using ladder logic and structured text.
Experience programming and setting up industrial robots (e.g., FANUC)
Electrical schematic design using AutoCAD and EPLAN
Hands-on experience troubleshooting and fixing electro-mechanical devices.
Familiar with common hand tools and diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters)
Travel required 15%
