We are looking for a Research Scientist - Insect Molecular Genetics to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Our team is searching for an experienced professional like you to serve as Research Scientist - Insect Molecular Genetics in the Global Insecticide Research Group at BASF's research facility in Research Triangle Park, NC. In this role, you will join an interdisciplinary team focused on the discovery of novel insecticides as a member of the Insect Genetics and Assay Development Team. You will focus on characterization of mode of action, resistance mechanisms and assay development for the discovery of novel chemistries for insect control.

As a Research Scientist - Insect Molecular Genetics, you create chemistry by...

  • Independently managing projects using experience with model insect genomics, Drosophila and/or flour beetle, to develop mode of action and resistance research tools.

  • Utilizing expertise to design CRISPR and DNA/RNA manipulation experiments to support discovery chemistry and life cycle management.

  • Acting as a technical resource with in-depth knowledge of insect molecular biology and genetics to develop gene expression analyses, RNA-Seq, and proteomics toward mode of action and resistance characterization.

  • Appling expertise with gene sequencing, proteomics, cloning and in vitro gene expression technologies to understand insect physiology, biochemistry and protein expression.

  • Communicating comprehensive analysis of experimental results in written and oral reports to global research teams.

  • Identifying opportunities for new technologies in the insect molecular biology, genetics and insecticide research fields to support innovation.

This role requires that you be willing to handle live insects and compounds of unknown toxicity.

If you have...

  • PhD with no prior experience, a MS with at least 2 years’ experience, or a BS degree with at least 5 years’ experience respectively in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or related biological sciences research.

  • Track record in the areas of insect molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or proteomics as it relates to insect control preferred.

  • Prior experience gained in the areas of model insect molecular biology, genetics, physiology, biochemistry and proteomics technologies in agricultural products research would be an asset.

  • Experience with RNA-Seq, transcriptomes, gene sequencing and bioinformatics.

  • Experience with PCR, RT-PCR, Q-PCR, gene cloning and expression technologies.

  • Experience with CRISPR and gene mutation technologies.

  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, management and organizational skills are a must.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%, domestically and internationally.
