Project Overview:
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.
Job Summary:
Under management supervision, the Industrial Hygienist is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health. Serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of industrial hygiene disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of industrial hygiene; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs, systems and procedures; monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area; investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards; conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs; provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice; may provide guidance for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel. Major Responsibilities:
Supports execution of the Industrial Hygiene (IH) component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
Assists development and implementation of Safety and Health Management Plan, associated IH plans and procedures, and training program.
Assists the integration of IH requirements into planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
Interprets IH requirements and provides guidance on related tasks for program execution.
Researches issues and regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
Provides assistance for IH studies, risk assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
Participates in emergency response and aids incident investigation and resolution.
Assists in identifying stakeholders and resolving their concerns.
Participates in meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
Conducts ESH inspections and IH monitoring and sampling to help identify hazards and risks, the effectiveness of controls, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to industrial hygiene and 1-2 years of relevant experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience

Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company health and safety regulations.
Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.
Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.
Prepares and reviews technical reports, correspondence and program compliance documents.
Establishes and maintains permits as required.
Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.
Develops and implements IH programs including IH processes, procedures and/or specifications.
Develops IH training programs and conducts IH training meetings as necessary.
Trains and assists subordinate industrial hygienists in sampling and assessment methodologies.
Conducts and assists projects with sampling, monitoring, data interpretation and occupational health surveys to ensure compliance with established programs.
Industrial Hygienists II are expected to pursue and/or complete a professional certification, such as an ABIH Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
