Insight Global Truck Driver & Mover in Richmond, California

Job Description

Insight Global is looking for an experienced Truck Driver & Mover to join one of our largest higher education clients. The Central Distribution & Moving/Event Services unit within the Supply Chain Management department serves as the campus' inbound & outbound freight consignor for shipments that cannot be directly delivered to or removed from campus directly. The unit also serves as the first choice for pick-up of campus' end of life excess property. Also responsible for accurate & safe collection & distribution of freight & merchandise, handling over 200 tons of freight annually. Assigned responsibility for assuring that shipments comply with applicable Federal, State, local & funding agency regulations. This resource is responsible for the transportation & delivery of inbound shipments & pick-up of excess property together with all associated customer service, records maintenance, & documentation. They will also participate in ongoing warehouse rotation, where drivers provide warehousing/inventory support & backup duties when not driving or moving items. Candidates should be local to the Bay Area in CA & commit to 30-40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  Verify delivery route and parcel counts against daily delivery list (electronic)

  Load & secure freight for daily route

  Ensure delivery to departments & get signatures for each delivery (in electronic form)

  Answer questions regarding pending deliveries (coordinating with dispatcher)

  Make rush deliveries as assigned

  Secure moving parts of equipment prior to move

  Follow assigned route to reduce fuel costs and mitigate backtracking; follow campus parking and safety regulations while driving vehicles as needed for work

  Report any accidents or vehicle malfunctions to dispatcher and/or supervisor

  Perform daily truck inspections for vehicle safety

  Maintain vehicle log in accordance with campus rules and regulations

  Maintain communication with warehouse staff

  Use assigned devices in accordance with University, FCC and California state regulations

  Execute pick-up of all surplus property

  Notify dispatcher immediately of any issues with pick-ups

  Ensure all items being picked up are listed on daily schedule

  Verify capitalized assets by matching property numbers with transfer documents

  Get signatures for all items picked up and enter into electronic system

  Coordinate with dispatcher & other team members for pickups requiring additional support

  Off-load all pickups and deliver to storekeeper for processing

  Assist in sorting items as needed - serve as backup for when storekeeper is out of office

  Recycle items per campus policies and procedures

  Assist in ensuring unauthorized and/or unsupervised people are not on dock

  Assist in receiving materials when needed

  Complete daily paperwork, tracking time spent on each job

Provide weekly inventory of moving equipment

Skills and Requirements

Must-Haves:

Experience with safe lifting & handling of boxes, furniture & equipment

Minimum 2 years of experience driving two-axel truck

  Valid California Class C License & clean record

Ability to use & maintain mobile device for tracking work in field

Written and interpersonal communication skills

  Basic computer skills (ability to check email, write basic documents in Word & Excel)

Ability to read and interpret room layouts & building diagrams

Ability to use material handling equipment (pallet jacks, forklifts, trucks with HVW of 15 tons)

Some nights and weekends may be required. Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalency

OSHA Certified for forklift operation

4 years of experience in office & lab moving services

Familiarity with mobile apps for scheduling

Familiarity with FileMaker null
