JOB SUMMARY:

Design, implement, and maintain robust SQL databases to ensure optimal performance, integrity, and reliability. Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries and database objects (stored procedures, functions, etc.), along with a deep understanding of database architecture and development best practices. Collaborate with application developers and stakeholders to create efficient database solutions, troubleshoot and resolve performance issues, and provide innovative recommendations for database or system enhancements. Enforce database best practices, including normalization, indexing, and query standards, to ensure long-term scalability and efficiency.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure, and maintain on-prem and cloud SQL database systems supporting a large-scale organization, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including application development, business stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary technical teams to define business needs, translate them into effective technical solutions, and ensure seamless integration and functionality of database solutions.

  • Enforce database performance through query optimization, indexing strategies, and resource allocation.

  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues to minimize downtime and ensure stability.

  • Identify and resolve SQL code performance issues while optimizing SQL code to ensure efficient and high-performing database operations.

  • Collaborate with application development teams to develop and review SQL code while supporting database design and modeling to ensure efficient and scalable solutions.

  • Leverage innovative, outside-the-box thinking to design and implement creative database solutions that enhance processes, enable new capabilities, and automate routine tasks, driving greater efficiency and productivity.

  • Monitor and optimize database performance, including query performance, indexing, and server resource utilization.

  • Define and enforce policies and best practices for all aspects of database management, including configuration, security, performance optimization, and maintenance to ensure compliance with organizational standards.

  • Maintain accurate documentation for database development and management, including system architecture, processes, standards, and troubleshooting procedures, to support transparency, consistency, and knowledge sharing across teams.

  • Manage and execute SQL Server upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and system disruption.

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in related field (Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Security)

  • 5-7 years’ experience with database administration for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and above both on-prem and cloud.

  • Or any combination of education and experience to meet the above requirements.

  • 5-7 years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, query optimization, tuning, and development.

  • Proficient in coding complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and views.

  • Experience with SQL Integration Services development and support, SQL replication, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, mirroring.

  • Excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, task management, organizational, and communication skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently with business stakeholders without daily supervision.

  • Experience with database design and modelling preferred.
