Our client is a global, research-driven pharmaceutical focusing on treatment options for diseases and conditions for which there is no satisfactory treatment option to date. The company is looking for a Lab Animal Technician to join the team!

Job Description: The Animal Care Technician will work under the general guidance of AR (Animal Resources) management or a designated supervisor to support AR operations in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding the care and use of laboratory animals. The position may involve rotational assignments across various animal and/or support areas. The role requires active participation in a team-oriented environment, assisting in the training of new team members, and ensuring quality review of records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform primary duties related to animal care and enrichment for routine and specialized animal colonies.

  • Clean and maintain associated facilities and equipment, including cage sanitization and preparation for use.

  • Handle animals, monitor their condition, and report abnormal findings in adherence to veterinary directives.

  • Ensure proper monitoring of room conditions to meet established standards.

  • Operate and maintain animal facility equipment, including cage washers and environmental monitoring equipment.

  • Provide support in specialized tasks or roles under the direction of senior technicians or AR management.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of task completion related to animal care, facility maintenance, and equipment use.

  • Assist in the quality review of records and training of team members.

  • Support the identification and evaluation of new technologies, equipment, and methodologies to enhance the animal care program.

  • Participate in a collaborative, dynamic work environment requiring effective communication, coordination, and accountability.

  • Perform inspections of animals and facilities to ensure safety standards and quality control.

  • Maintain current training records and AALAS registry standing.

  • Adhere to company policies, SOPs, and regulations, ensuring safety in all aspects of work.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; 2 years of experience in an animal research facility or veterinary practice.

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science or a related field preferred.

  • AALAS certification is highly desirable.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • No known allergies to animals.

  • Physical ability to perform tasks, including bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), squatting, pushing/pulling, reaching, standing for long periods, and handling animals.

  • Willingness to use personal protective equipment (PPE), including uniforms, respiratory protection, eye, hearing, hand, and foot protection.

  • Ability to work scheduled weekends and holidays.
