WSP USA Environmental Remediation Project Manager in Rifle, Colorado

Scope of this role includes remedial design, field investigations, contaminated site management, data analysis and team oversight. This role will work closely with contaminated site portfolio leads and ensure the correct delivery of projects within the oil and gas industry. Rifle, Colorado is a small town located on the beautiful Western Slope of Colorado, and centrally located 30 minutes west of Glenwood Springs; 1 hour northeast of Grand Junction, CO; 90 minutes northwest of Aspen, CO; 2 hours west of Breckenridge, CO and 3 hours west of Denver, CO.

Located directly on the Colorado River and near some of Colorado’s most popular tourist destinations, Rifle is the ideal location for adventure seekers. Residents enjoy skiing, fly fishing, hiking, camping, rafting, and mountain biking all located right out your backdoor. Rifle Mountain Park (popular with rock climbers) is located 16 miles north of Rifle and Rifle Falls, Rifle Gap and Harvey Gap state parks are close by. There is access to BLM areas Hubbard Mesa Open Area, Rifle Arch and the Roan Plateau. The Rifle Creek Golf Course is 6 miles north of the center of Rifle.

Your Impact

  • Manages/oversees projects under the client’s Terms and Conditions which have been negotiated prior

  • Support field staff collecting soil, groundwater and air samples for field and/or laboratory analyses

  • Create a detailed maps, lithologic logs and cross sections gathering, tabulating and analyzing data

  • Assisting with proposals, cost estimates and technical reports for regulatory agencies submittal

  • Oversee the team operating and maintaining field equipment and instrumentation

  • Understand federal and state rules and regulations regarding environmental permitting compliance and remediation

  • Provide senior-level expertise and technical guidance on complex regulatory projects

  • Lead and mentor geologists, engineers and environmental scientists, guiding junior staff

  • Prepare technical and Forms reports related for the Energy and Carbon Management Commission, Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and Utah Department of Oil, Gas and Mining.

  • Takes projects from original discovery through final remediation.

  • Oversees various moderately-complex projects without the oversight of a Senior Project Manager and minimal oversight from technical teams.

  • Responsible for assembling project/task teams and assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed. Given the complexity of the project, these teams could be larger, multi-disciplinary, and may reside in various states.

  • Develops the project scope and objectives, as well as clarify the role and function of each team member in order to effectively coordinate the activities of the team.

  • Identifies, monitors, and mitigates risk on projects where the client may not have a full understanding of the project risks.

  • Takes lead in development of proposals in collaboration with others.

  • Plans the execution of the project and monitors performance according to the project execution plan and the contract terms and conditions.

  • Manages project closure aspects ensuring correct project documentation.

  • Ensures project team (including sub-consultants/contractors) have understood and continually reassess the HSSE requirements of the project.

  • Develops and ensures adherence to the project schedule.

  • Supervises change request activities by appropriately addressing anticipated scope changes as they evolve and can advise others on scope change.

  • Assesses and predicts the possible impacts of schedule changes and the time management outcomes for future project impacts.

  • Develops a multi-disciplinary project budget and interacts with subcontractors to develop the project budget.

  • Assigns project budgets to task leaders and manages their performance.

  • Ensures compliance with client invoicing requirements and timely payment.

  • Wil travel to project sites mostly in western Colorado and surrounding states. Approximately 10% overnight travel.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related discipline; PG or PE license preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 -10+ years of environmental consulting and/or project management experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with project financial tracking, and change management related to scopes of work.

  • CAD, Civil 3D®, ArcGIS experience a plus

  • Expertise in project planning, numerical tracking and analysis (e.g., using MS Excel or similar programs).

  • Highly organized, adaptable, a developing leader and calm under pressure.

  • Experience in managing multi-discipline teams.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.

  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek

  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites mostly in western Colorado and surrounding states. Approximately 10% overnight travel.

  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional licensure/certification.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $90,000 - $115,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
