University of Rochester Department of Psychiatry has an opportunity for an experienced psychiatrist interested in developing a career in Emergency/Acute Services Psychiatry to join the energetic and dedicated team at Strong Memorial Hospital, in the pursuit of clinical and academic excellence.

This full-time position encompasses a clinical leadership role as well as patient care role within acute services. The leadership role as Clinical Chief of the Adult Acute Psychiatry Division includes oversight of a division that provides acute services to adults both locally and regionally. Strategic planning for acute services, process improvement, and innovative program development are integral to this position. This position also includes patient care within adult inpatient or Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program. This candidate will also have an academic appointment with University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, commensurate with experience and accomplishments, and ample opportunities for faculty development within a robust tradition of mentorship along with teaching and clinical supervision of psychiatric residents and fellows, medical students and other trainees. Applicants must be licensed in New York. Onboarding will include a pre-employment Employee Health clearance appointment that must be done on-site. This practice location is currently using the EPIC electronic medical records system and training will be provided. Highly competitive salary and university benefits package is available. • Must Possess an MD or equivalent and be board certified (or board eligible)

• Must obtain NYS licensure prior to start

Candidates applying to this position will be expected to secure an individual DEA and will be required to complete a post-offer health assessment and drug test at the University’s Employee Health site in Rochester, NY at least one month prior to start.

The Chief of the Adult/Acute Division of the Department of Psychiatry is responsible for overseeing the quality of care delivered by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians in a variety of service areas. Provides leadership in areas of strategic planning, regulatory compliance, performance improvement, risk management, staff and trainee education, and quality of care. Works collaboratively with the Clinical Administrator of the department to ensure development and implementation of program initiatives, integration of education and research, appropriate staffing, consistent productivity, and budgetary oversight.

Responsibilities:

Administrative

• Works collaboratively with other discipline leadership and the office manager to address patient care issues and quality of care

• Leads strategic planning to establish and implement clinical service goals

• Leads strategic planning to expand services to meet the demands of the community

• Reviews clinic and budget data with the Clinical Administrator and utilizes this information in decision-making around operational and staffing needs of the service

• Works collaboratively with nursing, social work, and other discipline leadership to support staff development and recruitment

• Participates as needed in review of critical incidents

• Participates as needed in reviewing and addressing patient and family concerns

• Oversees the coordination of physician coverage for vacations, conferences, sick time, and other absences

• Directly participates in physician recruitment process

• Performs chart reviews to assess standard of care in documentation by physicians.

• Collaborates and communicates with other departmental medical directors to coordinate care within the department's continuum of clinical services

Clinical

• Consults to clinicians around complex cases

• Provides direct clinical care (anticipated as approximately 0.70 FTE)

• Leads team meetings

Education

• Supervises residents, medical students, and other trainees

• Supervises physicians

• Supervises nurse practitioners

Faculty Responsibilities:

• Participates in annual peer review of patient medical record documentation

• Annual clinical performance reviews of clinic physicians

Our program has a 24/7 interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, RN's and social workers, and encompasses a dedicated behavioral health space immediately adjacent to the Emergency Department, Extended Observation Beds unit, a Mobile Crisis Team, and currently expanding with a Crisis Stabilization Hub.

The referenced pay range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job's salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alingment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
