We are seeking a Mid-level Mechanical HVAC Engineer to support a variety of K-12, healthcare, and higher education projects. This role involves performing renovations and ensuring that all work is done in accordance with building codes and good engineering practices.
Responsibilities
Research code issues and work with City, State, and County officials.
Research design options and document findings.
Review drawings supplied by vendors, clients, engineers, and architects, and recommend necessary changes.
Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to good engineering practice.
Resolve design problems through field investigations, detailed design work, and coordination of design aspects.
Design components or systems relevant to HVAC, piping, and plumbing specializations.
Work closely with other disciplines, such as the electrical team, on multi-discipline projects.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum of 4 years of experience with HVAC systems in commercial buildings.
Knowledge of U.S. building codes.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Valid New York State Driver’s License for occasional site visits.
Experience with Revit, plumbing, construction documents, mechanical design, AutoCAD, load calculations, EIT, and PE certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques on moderately complex projects.
Experience in planning, scheduling, and coordinating detailed project phases.
Ability to work closely with Project Managers to gain project management experience.
Capability to make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
Proficiency in performing calculations using engineering formulas.
Experience in completing design work using computer-aided or manual drafting techniques.
Ability to prepare reports and correspondence concerning project direction.
Experience serving as a technical advisor to junior-level project team members.
Ability to devise new approaches to encountered problems.
Willingness to assist on job sites as needed.
Experience performing quality control checks.
Work Environment
This role offers the ability to work on-site or in a hybrid capacity in Rochester or Buffalo, working in teams of 2-4 engineers depending on the discipline. Regular meetings are held every Monday at 7:30 AM to assess project deliverables, and separate department meetings are conducted to ensure resource allocation and prevent overworking employees. The office environment is structured to support collaboration and professional growth.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $52.88/hr.
