Job Description:
*Highland Hospital is seeking a Full Time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (NP's must have 1st assist to be eligible) to join its Department of Surgery team. Candidates for this role will have scheduling options to choose from including: Four (4) ten (10) hours shifts per week or three (3) twelves (12) or four (4) twelves (12) per week. No weekends or holidays required.

This position serves as an APP in support of and under physician supervision for the
Bariatric/Colorectal/General Surgery divisions. The position has two areas of responsibilities 1. ER/OU/Inpatient/OR and 2. Ambulatory Clinic. Staff members holding this position will be primarily assigned to one of the two areas and comply with the associated work schedule of the area. However, all staff holding this position must be sufficiently oriented and trained to serve in both areas if called upon due to sustained changes in workload, vacancies, or other unusual circumstances. APPs in the ER/OU/Inpatient/OR area of responsibility also serve to orient and assist General Surgery residents during their training rotations at Highland.
Emergency Room / Observation Unit / Inpatient
Conducts consults for assigned physicians consistent with medical staff scope of practice and delineation of privileges
Obtains detailed, accurate medical histories (including medication reconciliation)
Performs thorough and comprehensive physical examinations
Performs daily rounds on assigned pre/post op patients
Writes assessments, plans of care, and patients orders according to patient needs, standards of practice and within medical staff scope of practice and delineation of privileges
Performs bedside procedures consistent with medical staff scope of practice and delineation of privileges
In conjunction with other members of the health care team, provides discharge instruction
Provides accurate and concise documentation of patient care provided
Openly communicates with attending, consultant, fellow, & resident physicians; and other members of the health care team
Documents charges for billable professional services provided.
Resident Support
Facilitates the continuity of care among and within rotating resident teams
Actively orients and trains new resident teams to rotation specific responsibilities (including patient care conference preparations), protocols, and standards of care
OR (First Assist)
Assists in operating room procedures within medical staff scope of practice and delineation of privileges, including independently performing wound closures, bedside sterile procedures, and other first-assist and second-assist duties.
Performs other perioperative responsibilities including patient transport to recovery area or ICU
Provides post op evaluations
Writes pre and post-operative orders under the supervision of attending physicians
Facilitates the completion of lab tests, medical imaging, medication administration, and other surgery specific instructions
Salary Range:
$98,000.00 - $126,235.00 annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Job Requirements:
Education: Fulfilled the requirements to be a licensed PA or NP in NYS.
Experience: 1-2 years of experience working in Surgical inpatient setting preferred, however new graduates are encouraged to apply as well. Must have excellent proven communication abilities with all levels of staff including physicians, nurses, technicians, housekeeping, administrative and peers.
License/Certification Required: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the NY State Board of Medicine. NP’s must have First Assist Certification in New York State. Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required.
