Position Summary: The Staff Accountant assists the accounting team with the day to day, monthly and year end operations of the Accounting and Finance Department including auditing and budget review and analysis. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Accounting Team in performing accounting functions within the Business Office.

  • Monitor and collect data to assess accuracy and integrity; analyze data; ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e. GAAP), rules, regulations and systems of internal control; interpret and evaluate results, prepare documentation; create financial reports and/or presentations.

  • Perform the processing and recording of general ledger transactions and ensure that all entries are recorded accurately and in accordance with Finance policies and procedures.

  • Manage the processing of cash receipts, NYS Assessment reporting, Sales & Use Tax reporting, Labor Productivity, and Cost reporting.

  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics by preparing ad hoc analysis and reports for senior management as required.

  • Review revenue and expense allocations to ensure financial statements are accurately presented.

  • Report on periodic variances and their causes, focusing in particular on spending variances.

  • Prepare and analyze the monthly budget/forecast to actual variance reports per program and department.

  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations for bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses.

  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, productivity, cost analysis, ad hoc financial reporting.

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and annual audit.

  • Prepare bank reconciliations and other assigned accounts reconciliation.

  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, positivity, with a team-oriented approach that is focused on exceptional customer service.

  • Help with other duties as needed that support the Core Team to fulfill St John’s mission vision and values.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or Associate’s Degree in Accounting with five (5) years of equivalent experience in accounting or related field.

  • Relevant experience in accounting operations and/or audit required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel).

  • Ability to interact with elders and care for their needs.
