JOB SUMMARY

The K-12 Talented and Gifted (TAG) Teacher is responsible for providing an enriched and differentiated educational experience to students identified as gifted and talented. This role requires a deep understanding of the academic, emotional, and social needs of gifted learners across various grade levels, from kindergarten through 12th grade. The TAG teacher will develop a specialized curriculum, provide personalized instruction, and create an engaging, challenging classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.. Additional classroom instruction responsibilities may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement a differentiated curriculum according to the TAG program guide that meets the unique learning needs of gifted students.
  • Carry out TAG identification and selection process in collaboration with identification committee.
  • Develop personal education plans (PEPs) and provide modified instruction to ensure appropriate academic challenges.
  • Integrate enrichment activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and innovation.
  • Ensure the curriculum is aligned with state and national educational standards, while addressing the specific strengths and needs of gifted learners.
  • Utilize the Iowa Acceleration Scale to gather data and conduct the acceleration meeting with parents, students, and administration to determine whole grade or subject acceleration eligibility.
  • Demonstrates ability to enhance academic performance and support for implementation of the school districts student achievement goals.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to differentiate instruction to meet student needs while balancing a variety of group and individual projects at different grade levels.
  • Coordinate with classroom teachers to create plug and play options for enrichment.
  • Coordinate with the MS Counselor to meet the academic needs of the students in the TAG program.
  • Complete required state reporting as necessary .
  • Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the teaching position.
  • Demonstrates competence in planning and preparing for instruction.
  • Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meets the multiple learning needs of students.
  • Uses a variety of methods to monitor student learning.
  • Demonstrates competence in classroom management.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning by developing schemes of work and tests that are in accordance with established procedures. Ensure classroom is prepared for activities.

Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment by using relevant technology and a variety of learning materials and resources to support and differentiate instruction. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Discipline shall be maintained in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the district.

Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. Observe and evaluate student's performance and development, assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments. Provide appropriate feedback.

Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development, as well as update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations. Prepare required reports on students a d activities.

Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.

Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
