Fairview Health Services Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist in Rogers, Minnesota

Overview

Fairview is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) at M Health Fairview Clinic - Rogers (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---rogers) , M Health Fairview Clinic - Elk River (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---elk-river) , M Health Fairview Clinic - Brooklyn Park (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-clinic---brooklyn-park) . Primary hours vary and have a shift with hours varying between 9:30am-6:00pm Monday-Thursday and 9:00am-5:30pm Friday. Other shifts include start times between 6:30am and 12:00pm if needed. This position includes one weekend shift (Saturday) at our M Health Brooklyn Park Urgent Care site. Weekend rotations average every 6th weekend. Schedule is subject to change to meet staffing needs, including floating to other nearby clinics and varying starting times.

Responsibilities Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. An MLS/MT performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The MLS/MT correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The MLS/MT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The MLS/MT participates in laboratory performance improvement activities.

Job expectations include:

  • Follows established guidelines to obtain specimens and prioritize work.

  • Performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing.

  • Recognizes problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve them.

  • Evaluates testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention.

  • Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance Programs.

  • Orients and mentors’ new employees and students.

  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA ’88.

  • Possess or be eligible to receive appropriate HHS approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also recognized. Certification is required within 1 year of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology.

  • Good phlebotomy skills.
