Position Available: Special Education Director for Duchesne County School District
Location: Duchesne County School District Office in Roosevelt, UT
Job Description:
The Special Education Director is responsible for providing comprehensive services to students with
disabilities throughout the district. This position is crucial in ensuring that students with disabilities receive
the support and services they need to succeed academically and socially while adhering to Federal IDEA and
state guidelines and requirements. The DCSD Special Education Director also mangages IDEA/State grants
and resources. This role involves ensuring policy compliance, providing professional development, guiding
staff in equitable and inclusive practices, and overseeing Medicaid-related services.
Key Responsibilities:
Grant Management: Manage IDEA and State grants/resources to effectively provide services to
students with disabilities.
Compliance Oversight: Maintain SPED file and policy compliance, ensuring adherence to state
regulations, including UPIPS compliance (100 files annually) and Medicaid compliance.
Medicaid Management: Oversee Medicaid claim tracking and submission, ensuring accurate and
timely claims processing. Attend Medicaid State meetings to stay informed on regulations and best
practices.
Health-Related Services Oversight: Ensure the provision of health-related services for students
with disabilities, coordinating with related service providers and school staff.
Professional Development: Provide professional development and mentorship to Special Education
teachers to enhance instructional practices and compliance.
Guidance and Support: Assist principals and staff in implementing equitable practices for students
with disabilities through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 plans.
Representation: Represent the district at state meetings and committees, collaborating with
stakeholders to advocate for students with disabilities.
Child Find Coordination: Oversee the Child Find process to identify students needing special
education services.
Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve conflicts with parents regarding special education services
and support by utilizing strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Community Partnership Development: Establish partnerships with community organizations to
support transition-age students with disabilities. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse
stakeholders.
Interdepartmental Meetings: Facilitate USEAM meetings to ensure effective stakeholder
communication and collaboration.
Communication: Maintain ongoing communication with staff, parents, and stakeholders via email
and phone calls regarding special education services and updates.
Administrative Meetings: Attend and contribute to administrative meetings to discuss district-wide
initiatives and strategies.
Professional Learning Communities (PLC): Participate in PLCs to collaborate with colleagues on
improving instructional practices and student outcomes.
Observations: Conduct classroom observations to provide feedback and support to Special
Education teachers.
Policy and Procedure Updates: Regularly update district Special Education policies, procedures,
and guidance to reflect current best practices and regulatory changes.
Other Duties: Perform duties as the Super intendent assigned to support the district's goals and
objectives.
