Shell Junior Trading Analyst in Rotterdam, Netherlands

The purpose of the Trading & Supply Products business is to maximize sustained value creation in oil products markets with effective management of HSSE performance and the necessary controls for regulated business activities, in support of overarching Downstream objectives of material cash generation and high return on capital.

The scope of the Trading and Supply (T&S) business encompasses all activities globally from lifting fuel components/products from equity refining and purchasing fuel components/products from third parties, to delivering finished products to branded Marketing businesses and selling fuel products/components to counterparties, including global proprietary trading of fuels components/products.

What’s the role?

The main role of the Junior Trading Analyst on the Middle Distillates desk will be split into several fields of work. Those are, among others,

  • to cover cost tracking & working capital reporting, as well as other KPI reporting

  • running data models (yield, demand, etc.), collecting statistics and data from agencies and other reports, support Supply & Demand balance work, e.g. ship tracking, in association with other analysts on the desk and support teams

  • the incumbent is expected to support in generating and maintaining global supply and demand balances for distillates in association with the other offices and Shell trading market analysis

  • the expectation for the junior trading analyst is to help develop in depth data models based on applicable coding languages

  • the incumbent will support the development of sophisticated statistical models and help to translate those into trading strategies for the desk

The role supports the Shell Trading Rotterdam Middle Distillates teams and the Global Jet team.

What we need from you

  • A master’s degree in Mathematics or Finance.

  • Commodity trading industry or financial industry experience is preferred.

  • Has data analysis and coding skills.

  • Ability to verbalize complex matters into easy to understand information.

  • Able to perform under time pressure.

  • Drive for investigating and finding relevant information from various sources, piecing together a story supported by facts that will impact our markets and our books.

  • Strong capacity to manage and enjoy the capturing and real time analysis of a large amount of constantly changing data using coding skills.

  • Previous asset management or investment experience is an advantage.
