Saginaw ISD Payroll Specialist - Level IV in Saginaw, Michigan

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Administrative/Non-Bargaining Specialist Level IV
  2. 260-day position.
  3. Salary Range: $51,912 - $54,540 annually.
  4. One (1) Full-Time position, Monday through Friday.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor, this position will provide confidential payroll services to the Saginaw ISD and local school districts to ensure efficient and accurate payroll processing. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for preparing and processing payroll data, ensuring accurate attendance reporting, maintaining confidential payroll related files, responsible for accurate data reporting using the district Skyward Finance system, and provide professional support services to local school districts per contractual agreement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll

  1. Exemplify high standards of customer service at all times. Responsible for the payroll processing of Saginaw ISD employees and local education agencies (LEAs) that contract with Saginaw ISD for payroll services. Must be compliant with District policies, appropriate labor agreements, and related federal and state laws.
  2. Reviews and verifies pay files to ensure they are accurate and in accordance with appropriate reports.
  3. Assist in the preparation of Excel spreadsheet(s) to reconcile gross wages for the Saginaw ISD and LEA's.
  4. Assists in the preparation of paychecks and all duties entailed in the distribution of the paychecks.
  5. Processes remittances to appropriate agencies for funds withheld from paychecks including payroll and benefit taxes.
  6. Helps maintain ledgers on all payroll deductions and any other relevant payroll information.
  7. Maintains a variety of files and records related to the payroll system that are confidential in nature. (W-4's, 403(b) agreements, garnishment letters, etc.).
  8. Prepares information to pay all payroll liabilities for Accounts Payable.
  9. Maintains garnishment compliance on employees.
  10. Prepares and/or extracts from the payroll system (Skyward) various reports and information as necessary for meeting internal and external requirements.
  11. Works with the auditors on payroll accounts.
  12. Verify forms are entered and processed correctly in the payroll system (Skyward).
  13. Communicates with various departments' and LEA's employee status information.
  14. Process mid-year and end of the year stipends based on collective bargaining agreements.
  15. Provide support to other staff members as needed.
  16. Performs other duties and special projects as required by the Payroll Supervisor.

Attendance Tracking

  1. Accurately records all leave records (allocation and absences) in a timely manner according to established guidelines and labor agreements.
  2. Reviews status reports to ensure the accuracy of the data.
  3. Processes statistical reports as directed and requested, such as those used for Personnel studies and for all union groups.
  4. Maintains the collective sick bank per the collective bargaining agreements for all districts where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma/GED equivalency. Associates Degree in Accounting, Business, and Finance preferred.

Minimum of two (2) years of payroll experience required. Experience in payroll processing in an educational organization preferred.

Must be able to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills and abilities.

Must have the ability to manage numerous tasks, possess good organizational skills, and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.

Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
