The Position This position serves a critical role in the support of students as they transition to college and in their progress towards finding a fulfilling career. In support of the College's mission to guide students to live a life of purpose, the Assistant Director promotes career awareness and manages services that measure student success. Through cross-divisional collaboration, the Assistant Director seeks to create a sense of belonging for all students, while increasing their confidence in their abilities and instilling a positive outlook on their future. This role also supports facilitation of several technical systems, including Handshake, Navigate, etc. Key Responsibilities: Advising * Provide one-on-one career advising to both undergraduate and graduate students, focused on exploration of majors and purpose, internship and job searches, etc. Appointments may also cover development of professional documents and interview preparation. * Stay up-to-date on various career assessment tools (e.g., Strong Interest Inventory, My Next Move, Gallup Strengths) to support students in making informed decisions about their academic and professional futures. * Act as a resource for academic advisors, offering guidance and information on career advising strategies and support. PLACE Operations Management * Supervise, train, and manage Roanoke Rovers pooled student employment program, and collaborate with campus partners to fulfill requests for support. * Manage and administer key technical systems for PLACE, including Handshake, Navigate, and Big Interview. * Serve as the Point of Contact and PLACE team-lead for Student Employment Program, acting as the liaison with Roanoke's Human Resources Office for student employment postings, student employer training, etc. * Oversee the accurate and timely maintenance of job postings, events, and employer approvals on Handshake. * Assist with planning and executing events, including workshops, career fairs, and other on- and off-campus events hosted by PLACE. Outreach & Presentations * Collaborate with PLACE staff and academic departments to deliver career-focused presentations in courses and/or establish regular programming for students, including occasional evening or weekend sessions. Assessment * Manage data collection, maintenance, and reporting for PLACE on student engagement, on-campus student employment, and First Destination Survey (along with other RC senior surveys). * Collaborate with the Senior Director of Student and Alumni Success Services and the Director of Career Exploration to evaluate existing PLACE programs, identify opportunities for improvement, and collect and analyze performance data to measure effectiveness. * Assess current technologies, databases, and social media tools, providing recommendations for improvements to ensure PLACE objectives are met effectively. Professional Development * Actively engage in professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends and enhance leadership and program development skills; serve on campus committees as needed. Other Duties * Perform other tasks as assigned to support the ongoing success of PLACE and of Roanoke College. Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities: * Bachelor's Degree required. * A minimum of 2 years of experience in an educational setting is preferred. * Strong customer service orientation with a genuine passion for supporting student success. * Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Office applications. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Experience with student information systems such as Colleague, Navigate, and Handshake is preferred, though training will be provided. * Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
