The incumbent will serve as a Fisheries Technician - Rotary Screw Trap Tender (2 positions) in IDFGs Wild Salmon and Steelhead (WSS) program out of Salmon, Idaho. Sampling juvenile anadromous salmonid emigrants is an integral part of monitoring Idahos threatened populations of salmon and steelhead. Rotary Screw Trap Tenders will primarily be responsible for the operations, maintenance, and data collection at traps in the Salmon Region. The two technicians will work in rotating multi-day shifts to operate two rotary screw traps and also participate in spawning ground surveys.Positions will assist in various sampling methods listed below (see primary duties) and if interested there are opportunties to conduct a research project.
Primary duties include: PIT-tagging salmonids (including ESA- listed fish), collecting biological data (weights, lengths, DNA, scales, etc.), maintaining field equipment, assisting in PIT-tag array maintenance, spawning ground surveys, and installing/operating rotary screw traps.
Additional duties may include: data management (recording, organizing, and error checking in multiple databases), and assisting with other regional fisheries management projects throughout the region when needed (gillnetting, snorkeling, raft electrofishing).
