Job Summary
The Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty and staff in the Division of Physician Assistant Education and Sciences to design novel curriculum for a developing Doctor of Physician Assistant Studies program and develop and enhance the curriculum for the Physician Assistant program. This role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating instructional materials and activities that support effective learning and meet accreditation standards.
Responsibilities
Curriculum Development: Design and develop instructional materials, including online modules, simulations, and assessments, that align with the DPA and PA programs’ learning objectives and competencies.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Vice-Chair of Education, subject matter experts (SMEs) and Course Directors (CDs), including faculty and clinicians, to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
Technology Integration: Utilize educational technologies and learning management systems ( LMS ) to create engaging and interactive learning experiences.
Assessment: Develop and implement assessment tools to measure student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
Continuous Improvement: Analyze feedback from students and faculty to continuously improve instructional materials and strategies.
Training: Provide training and support to faculty on best practices in instructional design and the use of educational technologies.
Compliance: Ensure all instructional materials comply with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
Accreditation Support: Assist the Vice-Chair of Education and the University of Utah PA program in preparing for accreditation by developing documentation, gathering evidence of compliance, mapping the curriculum, and participating in self-study and site visit preparations.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); four years of progressively more responsible related experience; and demonstrated human relation and effective communications skills required. A related Master’s degree preferred.
Preferences
Education: Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in instructional design, preferably in medical or health sciences education.
Skills:
Proficiency in instructional design software (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate).
Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (e.g., CANVAS , Blackboard)
Strong understanding of learning theories and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE , Bloom’s Taxonomy).
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to analyze and apply feedback to improve instructional materials.
Knowledge of Physician Assistant Program accreditation standards.
Experience in developing health professions training programs.
Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning ( UDL ) principles.
Experience with e-learning development and multimedia production.
