The Intern is utilized in various departments. ARUP's culture is one of caring for both the patient and its employees.

This internship is open to students from the following Utah schools: UVU, Utah State University, Weber St, University of Utah, BYU, SLCC, Southern Utah, and Utah Tech.

About the Supervisor :

Joe Wiggins is the director of the data and analytics team which engages in initiatives and campaigns to enable a data literate enterprise that can use data and the insight from it to make informed decisions.

Internship Description :

Responsible for transforming specific, complex and sometimes cumbersome Tableau dashboards into a more intuitive, satisfying and empowering experience for the customer. Working with the requestor they will conduct research and implement those findings into the Tableau dashboard.

  • Working with members of the Data and Analytics team, identifies Tableau dashboards that are candidates for a User Experience (UX) update.

  • Conducts user research for identified dashboards to collect user requirements.

  • Working with members of the Data and Analytics team, incorporates feedback into Tableau dashboards

  • Perform daily assigned tasks.

  • Perform tasks in support of specific projects

  • Shadow the supervisor

    Internship Goals :

Tableau dashboards that are informative, intuitive, trusted and used within the enterprise.

Expansion of visualization capabilities

Documentation of dashboard in EDC and Axon “Informatica”

Expand and enhance collaboration skills as intern navigates between data, areas, personalities and obstacles

Appreciation for data governance and its role in analytics

Knowledge, Skills & Techniques Learned from Internship:

This internship provides an opportunity for an individual to learn more about data acquisition, the visualization of it, governance of it and displaying it in ways that are useful, intuitive, informative and helpful for the end user. Along the way the individual will build upon their soft skills in communication, leadership and engaging in productive and useful dialog.

Measurement of New Skills:

Intern will work on a specific project(s).

Intern will meet weekly with supervisor.

Intern will participate in daily standup to provide updates.

Intern will meet with Rick Poll weekly or as needed.

Physical and Other Requirements : Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others. PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies. ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Required

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent or better

Experience

Required

  • Pursuing a degree from an Accredited College or University

Preferred

  • Major: Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field
