Title: Museum School Programs Coordinator

Description: The Museum School Programs Coordinator will support the development and delivery of school programs for the Museum of Utah, including field trips, teacher professional development opportunities, and lesson plan resources. Acting as the primary point of contact for teachers, school administrators, museum staff, and the CPB Scheduling Team, this role will ensure effective communication and collaboration. The coordinator will support Education staff in classroom management, core standards, and lesson planning through providing trainings and modeling. Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational, communication, and project management skills, and demonstrate a passion for facilitating collaborative teamwork, lifelong learning, and guest-centered programming. Key behaviors include curiosity, empathy, a play mindset, and respect for varying perspectives, with a focus on fostering a supportive, innovative team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Delivery (75%)
    1. Facilitate inquiry based, guest-centered interactions in the museum galleries to help guests explore their curiosities around Utah history through asking questions, making observations, drawing connections, and having discussions.
    2. Facilitate scheduled programming such as field trips, workshops, weekly activities, etc. that are guest-centered and are appealing to a variety of ages, backgrounds and interests while highlighting the museum s collections, exhibitions, and mission.
    3. Facilitate activities that support events happening on capitol grounds.
  • Program Curation (15%)
    1. Develop educational curriculum for the museum in coordination with K-12 Initiatives Program staff and state educational standards.
    2. Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate activities and school programs at the Museum of Utah.
    3. Coordinate logistics with internal and external stakeholders and assist with event planning, preparation, and set up and tear down.
    4. Assist in long-term planning and establishing an annual calendar for school programs.
    5. Support staff in creating inquiry-based lesson plans to be used in a variety of programming.
    6. Collaborate with community groups, museum teams, and UHS staff to deliver and curate facilitation content and programming.
    7. Track attendance data, reports and other program documents. Maintain supplies and equipment inventory for school programs.
  • Team Support (10%)
    1. Participate in continual learning opportunities around museum programming, inquiry, guest engagement, visitor identities, Utah history, and more.
    2. Develop and facilitate a training module to support staff in fulfilling school program needs: inquiry, classroom management, Utah Core standards, etc.
    3. Collaborate with other MOU and UHS teams to further UHS strategic plan and support the Museum of Utah s mission, values, and goals.
    4. Support and participate in processes, systems, and culture norms that allow for all staff to lead from where they are, cultivate new skills, prototype ideas, and support one another in successes and failures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Some evening or weekend working hours will be required in order to support the education initiatives of the Museum of Utah.
  • Broad support and participation in the strategic direction of the UHS.
  • Collaboration with community partners or internal stakeholders on special projects.
  • Ot her duties as assigned.

Location: Hybrid; This position may be eligible for a hybrid of both in-office/hybrid work schedule (2 days a week required in office and any mandatory in office meetings) and remote work days (work must be performed in Utah). Our office is located at 3760 S Highland Dr, Millcreek, UT. Offices will b located at the Museum of Utah in early 2026. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.  Note: Under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah. As such employees should either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.

Compensation: $19.86 - $27/hr and State of Utah benefits

  • Valid driver s license and ability to drive fleet vehicles.
