SUBSTANCE USE AND MENTAL HEALTH

The SAMHSA Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) Program Manager will support OSUMH suicide prevention activities by managing all activities outlined in the Project AWARE implementation plan. This position's main responsibility is the implementation, management, and evaluation of the Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) grant, including all financial and contractual responsibilities.

The Project AWARE Program Manager administers and manages the state-level grant work while providing technical assistance to project partners- ensuring the project's outcomes are achieved and the terms and conditions of the grant are met. The grant goal is to build collaborative partnerships with project contracted Local Education Agencies (LEAs), community-based providers of behavioral health care services, community organizations, families, and school-aged youth. The AWARE Program Manager will support contracted school districts in building a three-tiered system of support and increase the number of students who receive evidence-based social emotional learning curriculum, suicide prevention training, and evidence-based mental health services. This position s job duties are grant and project management, evaluation and reporting, technical assistance and communications, professional development and training, contract and financial management, and other duties as assigned.

This position is expected to work closely with state and local school districts, while focusing on system-level changes to improve mental wellness and suicide prevention efforts for youth by supporting educators and school personnel in the state of Utah. The Program Manager will communicate regularly, and closely collaborate with contracted school districts, local mental health authorities, contracted providers, and other stakeholders. They will assess training and technical assistance needs, and administer policies, programs, and operations within DHHS as they relate to suicide prevention.  Preference *may *be given to applicants that:

  • has experience providing technical assistance and training to professionals in a school setting.
  • has experience in providing training and education to parents of students in K-12 and post secondary settings.
  • has experience addressing public health issues, such as suicide with youth and adults.
  • has a Master's Degree in Public Administration, Health Administration, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, or other closely related field.
  • has experience in project/program management, including managing budgets, goal setting, measurement, implementation and evaluation.
  • has experience applying for, implementing and evaluating federal, regional and/or local grants.
  • has experience implementing and monitoring contracts or memorandum of understanding.

Note: as of April 8, 2024, DHHS employees will be working a hybrid schedule, which includes 2 office days per week and 3 telework days.
