SAN ANTONIO ISD Journeyman Mechanic in San Antonio, Texas

Position Title: Journeyman Mechanic Job Title: Journeyman Mechanic Reports to: Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Pay Grade: N07 Terms of Employment: 240 days per year. At-Will employment agreement. Salary is in the pay grade N07 on the NonExempt SAISD Compensation Plan. Entry hourly rate is at $17.75 with consideration for directly related experience. FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Funding Source: This position is locally funded Position Summary To assist in the attainment of District goals by keeping the Districts fleet of vehicles and equipment running in the most efficient and economical manner. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities 1. Perform State Inspections on all types of vehicles 2. Ensure all safety standards for job performance and industry standards as to qualify and time guidelines are adhered to 3. Make emergency calls as assigned by supervisors when vehicles have problems in the field 4. Attend mandatory training and professional learning activities applicable to position 5. Perform automotive, light truck, heavy truck, bus and heavy equipment repair, tune- up and adjustments 6. Must complete assigned work in a timely manner according to industry standards 7. Work with supervisors in obtaining quality vehicle care and maintenance 8. Accurately prepares work orders showing total time and materials for each vehicle and piece of motorized equipment 9. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job 10. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency) and/or Associates Degree in automotive applications or 45 college hours of courses in automotive applications, within the last five (5) years, may be noted as credit for one (1) year of work experience. 3+ years experience in general automotive repair work and tune-up of diesel vehicles, gasoline vehicles, small engines, and air conditioning systems or related field. Valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with required endorsements (persons hired with Class C drivers license must obtain the A or B CDL license with required endorsements within 60 calendar days of employment. Job Description Revised: 08/22/2023 CDL License Holders must register, consent, and have a clear Federal Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse maintained by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Must reside in the state of Texas Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility) Must have or be able to obtain Vehicle State Inspection Permit as required by management Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Established ability to diagnose and repair automotive vehicle problems. Including engine, transmission (both standard and automatic) drive train, brakes, electrical system, fuel system, exhaust and emission control systems, wheel alignment and automotive air conditioning Solid knowledge of safety measures regarding use of standard chemicals related to the position is required Ability to pass annual fitness determination exam per Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations Proven ability to meet alcohol and controlled substance testing requirements set forth by the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing act of 1991 Ability to demonstrate the following core values: integrity, high expectations, commitment, respect, dedication to teamwork and passion for a student-centered environment Working Conditions Work Environment: Computer, compu er software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position. Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc. Physical Demands/Requirements: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
