Pay Information

Class 1, Step C – Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44– $8,849.03) per month based on the current AFT – College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Faculty Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.

The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT -Guild, Local 1931 – Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor. The Position

Please note there are two open positions for this role. Applications are currently being accepted for a Justice Impacted Counselor and Veterans Counselor.

Justice Impacted Counselor:

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Support Programs, the Justice-Impacted Counselor is responsible for offering strategic direction in improving access, retention, and completion of Justice-Impacted students. The Counselor leads the program in coordinating and implementing strategies to increase student success through counseling and advising services, coordinating related events, activities, and support, and defining and providing resources. The Counselor serves as a liaison, advocate, and educator concerning the unique needs, experiences, and challenges faced by Justice-Impacted students. The Counselor faculty participates in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the student success programs, which provide resources to assist students in meeting their personal, educational, and career objectives.

The Justice-Impacted Counselor position is responsible for providing specialized academic counseling, career development, and support services to justice-impacted students, helping them overcome systemic barriers and achieve educational success. This is a non-tenure track position.

Veterans Counselor:

Reporting to the Dean of Student Support Programs and Dean of Counseling and Career Transition Services, the Veterans Counselor is responsible for enhancing access, retention, and completion rates for veteran students. This role involves guiding the program in developing and implementing strategies to support student success through comprehensive counseling and advising services. The Veterans Counselor also coordinates events, activities, and support services while identifying and providing critical resources to meet students’ needs. Acting as a liaison, advocate, and educator, the Counselor addresses the unique experiences, needs, and challenges of veteran students. Additionally, the Counselor collaborates in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of student success programs aimed at helping students achieve their personal, educational, and career goals.

The Veterans Counselor position is responsible for providing specialized academic counseling, career development, and support services to veteran students, helping them achieve educational success. This is a non-tenure track position.

Major Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience in providing justice-impacted students with personal, academic, and career counseling in a post-secondary educational setting.

  • Ability to teach and facilitate individual and group sessions. Evidence of experience and academic preparation in conducting assessment, advisement, and student orientation.

  • Provide guidance and leadership to SDCCE as it relates to improving experiences of Justice-Impacted students, leading to increased retention and completion.

  • Develop, recommend, and implement student support services to enhance student retention and success for Justice-Impacted students.

  • Give presentations on Justice-Impacted students data and current research to a variety of stakeholders (e.g., students, faculty/staff, trustees, external partners, etc.). Provide training on Justice-Impacted student-related topics to SDCCE constituencies at varied levels. (e.g., faculty, professional classified; counselors, etc.).

  • Assist in creating annual reports on the strategic plan, including recommendations for improving outcomes based on results from previous years.

  • Assist in identifying future goals and strategies to enhance student equity and achievement for Justice-Impacted students and integrate with other institutional planning.

  • Work collaboratively with Counseling: Work with staff, administrators and faculty to identify gaps in services and develop appropriate strategies to address these gaps and collect data to show progress.

  • Develop equity-focused events on campus that engage the College community and address Justice-Impacted students and other disproportionately impacted student groups.

  • Research and recommend mentoring programs and co-curricular experiences and activities to promote excellence.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,

OR the equivalent.

( NOTE : A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of knowledge, training, and experience that would indicate sensitivity, understanding, and ability to work with Justice Impacted students and other special populations including the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

  • Evidence of experience and ability to assume a leadership role in the planning and coordination of community college programs for justice-impacted students and to evaluate program outcomes.

  • Evidence of knowledge, experience, and/or training that would indicate ability to instruct and work successfully with large groups and the ability to plan, develop, or implement orientation, college enrichment, career assessment, and transfer workshops and programs.

  • Demonstrated evidence of knowledge and ability to identify students experiencing academic difficulties, including monitoring, evaluating progress, and increasing retention.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and experience preparing and presenting written reports and evaluation of services.

  • Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and experience in a variety of educational plans for college students.

  • Evidence of knowledge and/or skill in the use of computer technology.

  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a collegial and cooperative working relationship with faculty, staff, and administration. Ability to utilize technology in promoting and enhancing services to students.

  • Knowledge of current California initiatives affecting community colleges and Justice Impacted students.

  • Demonstrated training and experience with the impact of trauma on behavior and development, and interventions and approaches that support student success.

    Conditions of Employment:

    SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT :

  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (Note: The certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment);
