Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Engineering 2 - Guidance, Navigation, & Control . This position is for a Functional Homeroom manager for a Guidance and Control Section at the Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA site.
The selected candidate will provide both functional homeroom management and technical contributions as part of a team of Guidance & Control engineers performing efforts on the Triton program within the Autonomous Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting business area. The functional homeroom manager duties typically account for 20% of the workload with the remaining 80% as a technical contributor.
Essential Functions of Guidance and Control Section Manager (20%):
Lead team of 12-18 G&C engineers, including college and high school interns
Provide personnel with career development, employee engagement, mentoring, and coaching
Coordinate with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance evaluations to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees, and counseling employees on their performance as necessary
Develop and improve personnel and organizational technical skills
Work with Human Resources to mediate and resolve personnel issues
Ensure process alignment through the work of direct reports, support program milestone reviews and deep dives, and assist in development and implementation of division objectives
Work closely with managers of other engineering disciplines, program managers, and IPT leads
Champion change within the organization, to achieve competitive advantage for the division and sector
You should demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business.
Demonstrate abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching.
Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills are required.
Essential Functions of G&C Engineer (80%):
Experience with Earned Value Management and proposal estimation.
Control Account Manager for G&C control accounts on development contracts
Perform performance and flying qualities analysis.
Non-linear 6DOF Simulation analysis.
Linear MATLAB analysis.
Data analysis and investigation.
Mission plan analysis support
The position reports directly to the Vehicle Controls and Flight Sciences Department Manager in the Vehicle Engineering Functional Homeroom. The Assignment Manager is the Triton VMS IPT. Hybrid work is available for this position. Up to 10% travel is required to perform statement of work.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience OR a Master’s Degree with 6 years of related experience OR a PhD with 3 years of related experience
Active DoD Secret Clearance
Previous Leadership Experience
Knowledge of Control System Design and Analysis
Experience with Matlab and/or Simulink
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with AGILE/JIRA/Confluence
Knowledge of CAM/Earned Value
Knowledge in Auto Coding, linear and non-linear analysis, aerodynamics, stability and control, simulation and modeling, and test data analysis
Experience with C/C++ and Python
Salary Range: $156,500 - $234,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
