Outside Machinist - 2nd Class - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CA

Job Description

  • We are seeking a skilled 2nd Class Outside Machinist to perform precision machining tasks on ship components, including shafts, bearings, and other mechanical parts.

  • The role involves installing, aligning, and repairing machinery and equipment on ships, reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and manuals to determine work procedures, and using a variety of hand and power tools.

  • The machinist will also conduct inspections and tests to ensure the proper functioning of repaired components and collaborate with team members to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform precision machining tasks on ship components, including shafts, bearings, and other mechanical parts.

  • Install, align, and repair machinery and equipment on ships.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manuals to determine work procedures.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools to complete machining tasks.

  • Conduct inspections and tests to ensure the proper functioning of repaired components.

  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure timely and efficient completion of projects.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Essential Skills

  • 2-4 years of experience as an outside machinist in the ship repair industry.

  • Proficiency in using machining tools and equipment.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and components.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.

Work Environment

  • Work will be performed at various locations, including BAE Systems aboard the USS Halsey, USS Mobile, and USS Green Bay, as well as NBSD aboard the USS Russell. The environment is physically demanding and requires adherence to safety protocols.

Job Type & Location

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00
