We are seeking a Sr. IT Operations Manager to join a dynamic team supporting critical IT operations and infrastructure projects on a long-term contract basis. This role balances hands-on technical expertise with project management responsibilities to oversee high-level operational initiatives and foster the team’s growth. The Sr. IT Operations Manager will be on a hybrid schedule in San Francisco.

In this position, you’ll be tasked with maintaining and advancing a hybrid infrastructure, covering both on-prem data center operations and cloud systems, with a significant focus on LAN/WAN networking, virtualization, and Azure migrations. Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Mentorship:

• Manage and mentor a team of IT professionals; ensure high productivity and technical growth.

• Mentor two team members who need training in Azure technologies.

• Help align the team with operational standards and infrastructure best practices.

• Hands-On Technical Leadership:

• Perform technical tasks alongside your team—this is not purely a managerial role.

• Deploy enterprise-level IT operational expertise to implement and support advanced infrastructure systems.

• Write policies and procedures to formalize operations and establish best practices.

• Architecture & Infrastructure Management:

• Oversee operations for both on-prem data center support and cloud environments (Azure).

• Deploy NetApp virtual storage in Azure and manage cloud-based backups.

• Lead initiatives to migrate on-premise systems to Azure, rebuilding infrastructure to align with best practices—supported by Microsoft and a partner.

• Technical Focus Areas:

• Networking: Strong expertise in LAN/WAN, switching/routing, and firewalls (including Cisco and Palo Alto).

• Data Center Operations: Manage a $1M investment in new data center equipment, including edge switches, firewalls, and console servers.

• Patch & Configuration Management: Lead endpoint management using Intune (recently migrated from SCCM).

• Virtualization: Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies.

• Azure Expertise: Manage services, virtual networking, billing, subscription management, and network security groups.

  Requirements

• Technical Leadership: Candidates should ideally have tech lead or management experience with the ability to organize, manage project management (PM) duties, and roll out systems.

• Proven experience managing an enterprise-level IT operations team with hands-on technical capabilities.

• Strong expertise in:

• LAN/WAN networking and on-prem data center support.

• Cloud environments – specifically Azure services and infrastructure.

• Practical patch management expertise, including SCCM and Intune.

• Firewalls – Must have familiarity with Cisco-based equipment and Palo Alto firewalls.

• Virtualization technologies and classical IT infrastructure (data center operations).

• Forward-thinking, with the ability to plan for future personnel and technology needs.
