Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Counseling or Clinical psychology, Counseling, Social Work or other clinically related field eligible for independent practice of mental health services.

  • Possess or be eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor or Clinical Social Worker in Texas(required to engage in independent practice of mental health services in Texas) following requirements as stated by Texas BHEC . Texas Occupations Code, Chapters 503 and 505.

  • 5 years of Post Master’s clinical experience (or equivalent) within a higher education setting or with a similar aged population; may include doctoral practicum experiences, pre-doctoral internship or postdoctoral residency.

  • Experience in providing crisis intervention services.

  • Experience providing consultation services.

  • Experience developing and providing prevention related programming.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

  • If license eligible, license must be obtained within 24 months of start date. License must be maintained in good standing to remain eligible for employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 6 years of post Master’s clinical experience (or equivalent) in a higher education counseling setting or with a similar adult population, may include doctoral practicum experiences, pre-doctoral internship or postdoctoral residency.

  • Experience working with the specific needs of student athletes.

  • Additional training and/or certifications related to sports psychology or counseling and/or athletic performance.

  • Experience consulting with sports medicine professionals, coaches, and other athletics staff.

  • Interest/experience providing services to populations working in high-performance programs/professions.

  • Experience with athletics performance-based interventions and measurement processes/techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups.

  • Experience providing services to First Gen student populations;

  • Ability/experience providing services within a high demand/fast paced setting.

  • Experience providing skills based interventions (e.g., CBT , I- CBT , DBT , etc.)

  • Possess interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor.

  • An awareness of the importance of life balance.

  • Commitment to the developmental approach to student services.

Job Description

Responsible for providing assessment and counseling to students experiencing adjustments in emotional and psychological problems.

Job Duties

The position provides services and programs in support of the emotional/psychological and personal well-being of intercollegiate athletes and provide consultative services to the Department of Athletics. This position will be housed in a location convenient to student athletes, will report to the Senior Associate Athletics Director and the Counseling Center Director (or their designees), operate within the processes/guidelines of the Department of Athletics and the NCAA , and will abide by Counseling Center policies and procedures.

  • Time-effective personal counseling (individual and group)

  • Initial clinical assessment & triage

  • Crisis intervention

  • Outreach programming

  • Consultation services and training with coaches, medical staff, and athletic administration

  • Maintain an awareness of and ability to work within NCAA policies

  • Exhibit an ability to navigate complex professional and administrative roles while maintaining strong professional relationships

  • Clinical training & supervision, as available

  • Clinical assessment

  • Administrative duties (including staff and committee meetings)

  • Professional development/continuing professional education

  • Adhere to ethical codes of conduct and services

  • Provide services within a high demand/fast paced setting

  • Conduct services in-person or via a secure virtual platform.

  • Provide liaison and/or embedded services for a campus department

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information to Applicants

Occasional evenings and infrequent weekend coverage as needed for athletic consultations needs, prevention programming and high priority campus situations.
