Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of a Sergeant, an Officer focuses on public safety by protecting life, property, and the state transportation infrastructure, by providing safe and efficient movement of commercial traffic through the State of Arizona; enforces all state and federal laws and regulations relative to commercial vehicle enforcement and regulatory compliance; completes all work assignments and training in a timely manner, good decision making, makes arrests when necessary, professionalism, testifies in court when required, prepares clear and concise written reports, exercises judgment in determining use of force, and promotes compliance of all state and federal laws, rules and regulations directly related to the duties of the position. The position also requires completion of the Peace Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT) before the background process. Background check and In-state travel is required.

Job Duties:

Performs duties to include: screening commercial driver/vehicle credentials, weighing commercial vehicles, performing enhanced vehicle identity inspections, registration compliance, commercial vehicle safety inspections, conducting traffic stops on commercial vehicles, enforcement of all pertinent laws, rules, and regulations, and all other duties performed by Officers.\ \ Performs the issuance of applicable permits, the routing of over-dimensional loads, and the collection of appropriate fees and taxes. Take appropriate enforcement action as authorized by state and federal motor vehicle and operator laws, rules, and regulations.\ \ Performs the inspection of vehicles, dealer, and salvage yard operations for compliance with State title and registration requirements. Take appropriate enforcement action as authorized by state and federal motor vehicle and operator laws, rules, and regulations\ \ Prepares appropriate reports and daily cash accounting pursuant to agency requirements. Communicate pertinent information through electronic, written, or oral means with peers, supervisors, other agencies, other governmental agencies, and the public. Attend various meetings, conferences, and training sessions.\ \ Collect and account for operating funds and receipts; prepare reports; resolve technical customer service problems and/or concerns that are referred by ECD personnel and/or customers, provide technical assistance in various areas to representatives of other states, transportation personnel, law enforcement agencies, title and registration offices, industry and clientele.\ \ Performs generalist functions as mandated by inter-agency and intergovernmental agreements with various Arizona State agencies, federal agencies, and bordering states. Assist the ADOT Office of the Inspector General as required and other duties as assigned.\ \ Maintains AZPOST training requirements to include an AZPOST firearms certification.
