The Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering has an outstanding opportunity for an entry level, Temporary Research Scientist/Engineer 2 position.
The Research Scientist/Engineer 2 will support the research programs directed by Dr. Prashanth Rajivan on cyberpsychology informed cyber defense technologies and experiments with human subjects. The successful candidate will assist the PI in designing cyber deception technologies, conducting tests in cyber ranges, supporting the design and execution of large-scale experiments with expert cybersecurity professionals, and conducting statistical analyses on the data collected from the experiments. The hired person will collaborate with industry and university partners involved in the sponsored project, contribute to technical reports to meet project milestones. Additionally, the successful candidate will also be expected to regularly collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students involved in the project, help with participant recruitment, attend weekly meetings, monitor project activities, maintain confidentiality of data, and interact regularly with the technical and administrative points of contact of the sponsoring organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conducting research, including engineering design, experimentation, and knowledge dissemination (78%)
Assist in designing and testing of cyberpsychology informed defense technologies.
Assist in the designing and execution of experiments with expert populations in the cyber range.
Assist in analyzing the data collected from experiments and share findings with the PI and the program partners.
Report the research progress to the supervisor regularly and as needed.
Contribute to development of research reports, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publications in scientific journals.Managing and supervising project activities: (20%)
Collaborate with other team members to meet the project milestones.
Collaborate with graduate students, undergraduate students, and others in the team.
Interact and collaborate with other university and industry partners in the program.Other duties as assigned by the supervisor (2%) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Data Science, or STEM-related fields and two years of relevant experience.
Background and experience in cybersecurity defense and cybersecurity operations. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
Experience with cybersecurity tools, such as intrusion detection systems, penetration testing tools, or cyber range platforms.
Experience participating in security hackathons, CTFs and CDXs.
Experience with red-teaming and background knowledge in cyber deception.
Knowledge of statistical analysis tools (e.g., R, SPSS) and/or machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Scikit-learn).
Experience writing scientific papers, making technical presentations, and publishing in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
Excellent teamwork experience and communication skills.
