SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY (NRM) 3D Prototyping Lab Intern - Summer 2025 in Shakopee, Minnesota

About our group: Seagate Research is an early innovation organization within Seagate Technology that scouts new technologies and new potential revenue streams for the company. Among its responsibilities, Seagate Research seeks to reduce the barriers to data storage through innovations in data collection and communication. For this role, we are seeking an experienced photonic/optical device engineer or researcher with an innovation mindset, with experience in optical physics or optoelectronics, who is willing to think outside of the box, and who is committed to executing on proofs-of-concept to advance an idea through the various technology readiness levels. About the role - you will: Material handling and inspection Assembly Machine set-up and operation Machine maintenance Work on 2-3 projects throughout the summer focused on additive manufacturing Quality inspection with calipers and micrometers Research into additive manufacturing and materials Basic CAD Basic computer programming (C++, Python) Follow standard operatingprocedures regarding chemical use and storage Follow standard operatingprocedures regarding tools and machines Present project to team About you: Interest in additive manufacturing and its applications. Interest in material science. Experience with CAD modeling (SolidWorks). Ability to apply skills learned in the classroom to situations in the workplace. Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics. A good understanding of basic geometric tolerancing. Honesty / Integrity - Ability to be truthful and be seen as credible in the workplace. Accountability - Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. Have effective problem-solving skills. Experience with lasers. Your experience includes: Experience following basic lab/shop safety procedures. Experience in a chemistry lab. Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree program studying material science, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another related field and enrolled in fall 2025 classes. Location: Our Shakopee campus is located 25 minutes southwest of Minneapolis in a setting with a rural vibe - it overlooks a horse racing track and stables, yet it has great entertainment venues close by as well.
