JOB SUMMARY

The Vice President of Operations is a key member of the Greater China senior executive and serves as the operations strategic partner to the COO and the broader leadership team to drive the Region’s strategy and enhancing business performance with an emphasis on operational excellence.

In this capacity, the VP, Operations acts as both a strategic and tactical business partner to the COO, RVPs and Brand leaders for the Region. The position oversees a team of Operations specialists who support five core business processes across all operational disciplines: Food & Beverage (Culinary, Restaurants & Bars and Meeting & Events), Rooms (including Spa, Retail, Public Space), Engineering, Project Management and Deployment and Safety and Security. The role is also responsible for the pipeline product design across all brands in partnership with Global Design.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 15+ years of leadership experience in hospitality; multi-brand leadership role

  • Experience in leading projects through a highly matrixed and relationship-based organization across multiple cultures

  • Expertise in at least one of the following fields: Operations and/ or Engineering

Preferred

  • Track record of operating efficient programs within budget, and developing cutting-edge solutions

  • Strong understanding and application of managerial concepts and techniques in areas such as idea creation, employee development, coaching, cross-team effectiveness, and project/ resource management

  • Leadership skills that manage a balance between creative innovation and operational feasibility

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Lead the development of strategies that support the region’s business priorities in alignment with the Company’s overall strategic plan. Actively contribute to the formulation of the Region’s long range plan.

  • Provide strategic leadership to build business performance and capability. Monitor and respond to emerging issues relative to the operational effectiveness of the properties across the GC division.

  • Serve as an integral conduit for information sharing and alignment within and across the region – representing and advocating for regional priorities with Global Operations, Global Design and the Brand Management organizations; representing global discipline priorities to regional leadership and ensuring proper pull-through of initiatives in the Operations disciplines.

  • Lead relevant performance-focused initiatives and task force to address high-priority or critical operational performance issues.

  • Set the Regional’s approach to achieving operational excellence goals in each functional area of accountability and monitors progress relative to key business metrics.

  • Actively engage with key stakeholders (i.e. President, COO, RVPs and Brand) to understand market-specific operational performance drivers and challenges to align on joint solutions to drive results.

  • Create the Region’s programmatic approach to achieving operational excellence goals in each functional area of accountability, monitors progress relative to key metrics and partner with RVPs to drive performance.

  • Ensure effective and efficient deployment of resources to meet the program deployment and operational training needs of properties within the region.

  • Provide consulting and deployment support to properties, including development support and business continuity oversight.

  • Approve all facilities criteria on behalf of operations for all pipeline projects. In conjunction with President / COO, and VP Global Design approve all future hotel projects on the CDR panel.

  • Partner with President, COO, RVPs and Global Design to work with owners for certain high-impact halo hotels design and problem-resolution, and, in partnership with Global Asset Management, resolve arising issues for existing hotels.

  • Partners with Global Operations and Brand to design and develop new programs, products, services serving as a key business partner or sponsor for significant initiatives that will ultimately be deployed to managed and franchised hotels.

  • Partner with the corporate discipline and support teams to deliver programs and services in each of the functional areas.

  • Provide leadership oversight over risk-escalation and ongoing/post-implementation feedback on programs & services. Serve as a point of input relative to new program design and development.

  • Design realistic and achievable hotel deployment plans and support hotels with implementation issues and challenges as needed through webinars, in-market visits or training as appropriate.
