Responsibilities As the Community Outreach Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day operations with work that involves developing and implementing strategies to support community engagement and prevention/intervention efforts that are designed to build trust and legitimacy for the U.S. Attorney's Office and other public safety agencies within communities, strengthen public knowledge, and enhance public safety. The incumbent performs outreach efforts within communities and identifies and provides guidance on available resources. Specifically, assignments encompass the following: Represents the United States Attorney to all interested organizations, community groups as a specialist in community engagement and prevention and intervention, and develops specific strategies, goals and approaches to community engagement and prevention/intervention. Facilitates the development and implementation of programs and strategies to complement community outreach and prevention/intervention efforts using all available tools and resources. Researches the technical aspects of available program resources and provides direction and coordinates training with subject-matter-experts, as relevant, for non-federal agencies and organizations on DOJ grant funding eligibility requirements and the grant application process. Develops news releases, briefs news media representatives, and prepares written material for dissemination and publication. Utilizes existing and established contacts with media outlets in the media market to distribute press releases and promote USAO programs, activities, and initiatives. Arranges community outreach events, conferences, and meetings for the USA, FAUSA and EAUSA. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: experience involved researching community organizations and establishing relationships with specialized groups, underserved communities, government entities, and the general public to support communities and assist with prevention/intervention efforts; arranging and conducting community relations activities and other special events, workshops, seminars, and meetings with various organizations to stimulate program participation and identify audience concerns; collecting and analyzing views and opinions of various publics to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend modifications. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M, if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. OR Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)-The CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. Additional Information Payment of relocation expenses will not be authorized. This is an onsite position. The official duty station is 300 Fannin Street, Suite 3201, Shreveport, LA 71101. While there may be occasional opportunities for ad hoc telework, District employees are not eligible for routine telework schedules until after they have been on the job for 90 days. After 90 days on the job, the current telework policy allows 1 day of routine telework per week. Telework policies are subject to change due to workload demands and onsite staffing needs. Employees must remain available for unscheduled onsite work even when on an approved routine telework schedule. Applicants must live in the local commuting area of 50 miles of their official duty station.
