This job posting will be used to fill one part-time vacancy within the Minnesota Veterans Home - Silver Bay. This position is designated as part-time, rotating shifts; 9:00 am- 7:30 pm, or 10:30 am- 9:00 pm. The work schedule will include at least 72 hours per two-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. The position is initially eligible for full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.

The Skills Development Specialist works directly with complex residents, such as those with dementia, and is responsible for creating life engagement activities and programs to reduce out of character responses to enhance quality of life and quality of care outcomes. As part of the skills development team, this position develops and implements individualized programming, educates, coaches, and leads other interdisciplinary staff and residents’ families in carrying out individual program plans to ensure consistency in implementation.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience performing work providing care support.

Experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of patient care with dementia and/or other related conditions

  • Knowledge of life enrichment principles and techniques sufficient to plan, design, and implement resident programs

  • Ability to demonstrate training methods sufficient to motivate and guide employees

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in skilled/long term care

  • Training and coaching experience in a direct care setting

  • Experience writing, modifying, or evaluating program plans

  • Degree in Human Services or related field

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.

  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
