Description
POSITION SUMMARY:This is a part time position performing duties as a Crime Lab Technician Intern under the direct supervision of the Crime Lab Supervisor and Firearm Examiners.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: FORENSIC CRIME LAB TECHNICIAN
ASSISTANT.
Receive training and perform all forms of Crime Lab functions.
Assist Crime Lab Technicians in performing evidence gathering and processing
Assist in Fingerprint area when requested or as needed.
Provide support to Crime Lab Technicians as needed.
Perform preliminary examination on evidence under the guidance of Crime Lab Techs. Determine subsequent analysis or examination needed and collect additional evidence as needed.
Assist in keeping evidence records and logs.
Answer phones and assist with evidence intake.
Assist outside agencies, such as: ATF, Drug Investigation Unit, Mishawaka Police Department, St. Joseph County Sheriffs Department and Goshen Police Department, when needed.
NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: CRIME TECH-FIREARMS
Assist in preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments and safety equipment.
Assist in restocking evidence packaging room if needed.
Responsible to the Crime Lab Supervisor and is routinely supervised by the Supervisor and/or other Crime Lab Technicians.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma required, and currently enrolled in or completed a higher education studying forensic science or criminal justice preferred.
Must possess a valid drivers license and operate a motor vehicle.
Successfully complete a polygraph examination, criminal history background and personal background with no criminal record.
