Honeywell NDT/FPI - Inspector in South Bend, Indiana

As an Inspector here at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in our Aerospace Technologies (AERO) business unit in South Bend, IN. You will be accountable for inspecting and ensuring the quality of our aerospace products. Your attention to detail and adherence to quality standards will contribute to the success of our manufacturing processes and the overall growth of our business.

You will report directly to our Quality Manager, and you'll work out of our South Bend, IN location.

In this role, you will have a significant impact on our AERO business unit by ensuring the precision and quality of our aerospace products. You will perform inspections on incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products to ensure compliance with specifications and customer requirements. Your ability to interpret engineering drawings and use precision measuring tools will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability.

This is a Union Position, so starting pay is: $23.75

Key Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect production parts such as, but not limited to, piston housings, torque tubes, and wheels for surface/structural imperfections and defects.

  • Refer to blueprints and other specification documents as needed to determine proper inspection method and process.

  • Inspections involve using penetrate method for aluminum parts and magnetic method for steel parts. In penetrate method, inspector sends parts through a series of stations that wash, spray fluorescent dye, dry, and apply developer.

  • Scan each part with a black light and checks for imperfections and defects.

  • Using magnetic inspection, inspector cleans parts in an aqueous wash and then sends them through a Magnaflux machine.

  • Visually check for imperfections or defects before de-magnetizing and re-washing parts. In either method, inspector makes determination on whether or not defect warrants removal.

  • If feet removal is necessary, perform grinding operation on part to correct defect.

  • Preform acid etch on parts to remove smeared metal following grinding. Based on grinding make determination on whether should be referred to material review bay.

  • Tools used in inspection process include, but are not limited to, comparator strip, grinding gun, Gauss meter, steel stamp, radiometer and gloves.

  • Update related paperwork/work instructions upon completion of tasks.

  • Demonstrate safe work habits.

  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly manner.

  • Check that penetrates equipment, black light intensity, and related machines are working properly.

  • As a team member, demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems leading to continual process improvements and effectiveness of the team.

U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Extensive experience with magnetic and surface inspection

  • Due to Federal regulations, candidate must be either a US Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident

  • Math skills that demonstrate a basic understanding of arithmetic and algebra

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
