Job Title: A&P Mechanic - Firefighting Fleet

  • Pay: $36 -42/hour based on experience, plus paid flight time, PTO, and paid holidays. +$5.00/hour while on fire contract, plus maximum GSA per-diem

  • Bonus: Once direct, 3 to 5% yearly

  • Travel: Very minimal until fire season starts, then 75% travel (approx.) June – Sept

Job Description

Join our team to maintain and repair firefighting aircraft, including Avro RJ 85 airtankers and next-generation Canadair CL-415 'Super Scooper' amphibious aircraft. In the off-season (roughly October to May), you'll work on full repairs, refits, modifications, and maintenance checks to ensure aircraft are ready for the fire season. During the fire season, you'll rotate between the headquarters and various fire bases across the western US, performing line and field maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing all aircraft systems, including Avionics. Hourly pay increases during deployments, and maintenance work at the home base follows a steady Monday to Friday day schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full repairs, refits, modifications, and maintenance checks on firefighting aircraft during the off-season.

  • Rotate between headquarters and fire bases across the western US during the fire season.

  • Engage in line and field maintenance at fire bases, troubleshooting and repairing all aircraft systems, including Avionics.

  • Ensure aircraft are ready for season availability and inspection by the end of March.

  • Troubleshoot and solve mechanical and electrical issues in the field.

Essential Skills

  • A&P License

  • 4+ years of aircraft maintenance experience

  • Expertise in Avionics or Structures highly preferred

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Openness to overtime and fieldwork

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with heavy and phase maintenance

  • Ability to work in a close-knit team environment

  • Strong work ethic and quality of work

  • Good interpersonal skills to avoid personality conflicts

Work Environment

Off-Season: Hangar maintenance, repairing aircraft from the previous fire season, and installing any upgrades and modifications. Hours: 7 am - 3 pm, Monday through Friday. During the fire season, mechanics rotate from headquarters to the field, performing line and field maintenance at fire bases around the western US.
