Summary This position is located in the Warehouse area of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. The position is located at an Mann-Grandstaff Veterans Administration medical facility in Spokane WA performing warehouse work that involves receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Checks received shipment items against electronic purchase orders and/or other related documentation. Verifies correctness of shipment prior to completing receiving process. Records/notes discrepancies such as shortages and damages. Directs special attention to time sensitive and emergency requests. Maintains warehouse in a neat clean and orderly manner. Maintains the flow of the warehouse by moving, delivering, shelving, storing and inventorying materials and equipment. Handles delivering and warehousing materials including hazardous, flammable and temperature sensitive products. Places items appropriately on shelving, pallets on bins to ensure adequate safeguard and access. Reads, writes, and maintains files of various government and commercial documents to include turn in requests, discrepancy reports shipping/receiving documents, etc. Maintains accurate inventory for all materials and equipment. Interprets a variety of standards operation procedures (SOPs), directives, and policies. Follows all guidance provided by various directives, handbooks, memorandum, property management regulations, supply and distribution policies, checklists, etc. Follows oral instruction from dispatcher and/or supervisor pertaining to transporting, destination, cargo, deadlines and any additional/special instruction when appropriate. Familiar with automated purchasing and inventory systems. Uses forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, and other loading and storage mechanisms. Understands how to load supply carts, vehicles or pallets to ensure safety and most efficient process. Prepares authorized materials for shipment (both small packages and bulk. Ensures all items are packaged or palletized correctly to prevent damage. Adheres to all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) operating and safety standards. Utilizes proper safety techniques when handling a variety of material and equipment. Uses all types of personal protective equipment (PPE). Takes all precautionary measures in an attempt to prevent serious accidents. Handles hazardous and sensitive materials according to established procedures. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/03/2025. Position requires a valid Washington State Driver's license or Commercial Driver's License CDL (Screen-out). Incidental operators are employees, other than those occupying a position officially classified as a motor vehicle operator, who are required to operate a Government-owned or -leased motor vehicle to properly carry out their assigned duties. To qualify as an incidental operator, an employee must possess a valid State license, have a safe driving record, pass a road test, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely. Experience includes: performing warehouse work involving receiving, storing, selecting and shipping of general or specialized bulk materials and equipment; loading and unloading materials; route materials and equipment to correct locations or storage areas; prepare shipping and inventory documents. *Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive full credit. Physical Requirements: Work involves considerable walking, pushing, and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment. Works offloading and loading trucks, lifting products on and off-shelves, handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 pounds. Will frequently handle equipment, furniture, and materials of an awkward and heavier nature in excess of 100 pounds. These items are typically handled using specialized equipment and/or assistance of co-workers. Greater physical effort may be required on projects involving the movement of large quantities of product over an extended period of time including, but not limited to, turn-ins, large shipments and deliveries. While operating vehicles, may be required to exert a greater level of physical exertion while backing and turning trucks, operating forklifts, or hand trucks on uneven terrains and uncertain conditions. Working Conditions: Required to work in storage buildings, pods, trailers, vehicles and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Employees work outdoors, on docks, making deliveries in all types of weather conditions during all seasons. Hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities. Duties will be subject to the possibility of trips, falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, or injury from the use of equipment. All types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required. May be subject to conditions that could result in serious accidents; precautions will be taken. Must possess a valid, state driver's license or commercial driver's license (CDL), as applicable, if required to operate a motor vehicle or commercial vehicle. Education There is no education substitution for this position. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
